We Asked Parents To Reveal When Kids Are At The Best Age, And Things Got Real
There are wonderful ― and not-so wonderful ― things about every stage of a child's life. But for parents, certain years are particularly enjoyable and hold a special place in their hearts. With that in mind, we reached out to parents and caregivers to ask what their absolute favorite age for kids is. Read on for their honest responses, with plenty of reminders about the joy of the entire journey. And if you're a parent and would like to share your favorite age, email us your thoughts at parents@ Your response might be included in an upcoming article. Age 4-5 Months 'Each age leads to its own set of triumphs and challenges, but my favorite so far is the sweet spot of four and five months. They're still cute little babies, but they're starting to smile and laugh and they haven't started teething yet. They're not really mobile. I found, at this stage, they were just starting to sleep better and didn't wake up as much throughout the night. I didn't have to worry about feeding solid foods yet. This was when I was finally able to get my children to follow a routine.' ―Stephanie Claytor, founder of the family travel blog Blacktrekking Age 4-7 Months 'I've loved every stage more than the last, but there's something really special about the 4-7 month stage when babies' personalities start to emerge, they start trying solid foods, they sleep better, and are generally delightful little, squishy giggle machines. Absolutely delicious!' ―Amanda DeLuca, founder and CEO of the parenting app Riley Age 2 'I wrote a poem about this, and not so ironically, it is called 'My Favourite' and how it speaks to each age bringing something so special to hold on to. The getting on your hands and knees and discovering the world from their view, the mispronounced words, them crawling into bed with you, the curious and clever questions. It almost feels impossible to pick! But if I had to choose so far, I would say 2. I know the term 'terrible twos' is thrown around freely (and look, don't get me wrong, I walk on eggshells some days too), but there is something so precious in the purest form of joy at this age. You can still carry them on your hip, the sentences begin forming, so do friendships, and opinions, a true sense of their personality. I feel like this age is where I get to discover so much again through their eyes. There are so many firsts and so many lasts in this year. It's so delightful (public tantrums aside.)' ― Jessica Urlichs, author of 'Beautiful Chaos: On Motherhood, Finding Yourself, and Overwhelming Love' Age 3 'As a mom of five kids between the ages of 4 and 10, including two sets of twins and one singleton, I've experienced a wide range of developmental stages all at once. I'm also a child care consultant and mindfulness facilitator, so I get to observe these stages both personally and professionally. My favorite age is 3. There's something magical about that stage when language is blossoming and curiosity is both hilarious and a little terrifying. Three-year-olds are unfiltered, imaginative, and constantly exploring the world with their whole bodies. They're eager to be independent but still need connection and co-regulation, which makes it such a rich age for bonding and playful learning.' ―Princess Owens, child care consultant, mindfulness facilitator and content creator Age 4 'Peak vibes. They're chatty but still think you're a superhero. They're emotionally open but not yet in their feelings. And best of all, no nappies, no SATs. Just pure personality, big questions about the moon, and accidental comedy every 12 minutes. It's like living with your favorite drunk cousin: expressive, unpredictable, but full of heart.' ―Marvyn Harrison, author, broadcaster and founder of Dope Black Dads Ages 5-8 'While there's truly something magical about every stage, my personal sweet spot is the 5-to-8-year-old range. This is the golden age of curiosity. They have enough dexterity and patience to engage in more complex projects ― from building simple robots to messy kitchen science experiments ― but they haven't lost that pure, wide-eyed wonder. You can introduce a scientific concept that makes their eyes light up, and they see you as a partner in discovery. It's the peak 'let's build it together' phase, and for a hands-on dad, there's nothing better.' ―Sergei Urban, founder of The Dad Lab Ages 8 & 10 'My oldest is 10, and my youngest is 8. I'm being very honest when I say this has been my favorite age so far. My kids can look me in the eye and say, 'I love you.' They can give me deliberately tight hugs. They can tell stories and explain their ideas to me. They're independent enough to be intentional, which also comes with intentional challenges and pushbacks that force me to look in the mirror, admit to them when I'm wrong, not have answers to every question, and not be able to run from tough conversations. It's the yin and yang of growth, and for right now, I'm OK with that.' ―La Guardia Cross, YouTube content creator Ages 10-12 'There are definitely things I have enjoyed about every age. Likewise, there are things about every age that I have found incredibly challenging. That being said, I really enjoy the age between 10 and 12. They really begin to develop a deep sense of self and become very insightful. They are incredibly wise and in touch with the world around them. They still have the innocence of childhood, but are also coming into a wisdom that is incredible to witness and engage with.' ―Jillian Amodio, mental health advocate and social worker at Waypoint Wellness Center Responses have been lightly edited for clarity and style. Human flooding in capital Sana'a on International Quds Day 1446 AH
Sana'a - Saba: The capital Sana'a witnessed on Friday a human flood in the million-man march to commemorate the "International Al-Quds Day" and to reaffirm the strength of the Yemeni people's attachment and adherence to the Palestinian cause. In the march, which was attended by Arab and international delegations participating in the third international conference "Palestine, the central issue of the nation", the raging crowds emphasized the continued steadfastness of the people of faith and wisdom and the firmness of their stance in support of Gaza, the Palestinians , their valiant resistance, confronting the American , Zionist aggression, regardless of the challenges and sacrifices. It considered the revival of the International Al-Quds Day as a renewal of the pledge and loyalty to Al-Aqsa Al-Sharif, the first of the two Qiblas , the third of the two Holy Mosques, and the Palestinian cause, the first and central issue of the nation, until the demise of the temporary Zionist entity and the American project from the region. She explained that the commemoration of this occasion emphasizes adherence to the right and an important position during the current stage, in which the Palestinian cause is exposed to an attempt to liquidate and displace the Palestinians from their land , violate Islamic holy sites, and Yemen continues to support the Palestinians and resistance until the liberation of all occupied territories from the Zionists' desecration. The crowds expressed pride in the legendary steadfastness and fortitude of the Palestinians and their valiant resistance in Gaza and Palestine, who are writing the most magnificent heroic epics and historic victories in the face of the Zionist and American enemy. South African parliamentarian Zwelivelile Mandela, , grandson of Nelson Mandela,p delivered a speech at the rally, in which he expressed his happiness to be present with the Yemenis today, in the name of resistance and freedom, to support Palestine, in the face of and imperialism, for the sake of freedom for the world. "We came to you from South Africa with the support and backing of the entire Horn of Africa, for freedom, and to realize the revolution with feelings of love, and we here love the Yemenis," he said. Mandela addressed the world from the capital Sana'a: "Today we address the world from the Yemeni cities: we participate in this international delegation with you and carry a message to the millions of the world who are watching today, that we support the Palestinian people and stand together for the liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian people." "We assure you that we stand with the Yemenis who stand with Palestine in Gaza, under the titr 'either resistance or surrender,' and we will not surrender or submit, and with you the love of the whole world in support of the resistance, together we stand together in the struggle for freedom, brotherhood and equality." The South African parliamentarian concluded his speech by saying, "It is genocide in Gaza and we must support them in Palestine, and on this day, Al-Quds Day, we say with you in Palestine and in Gaza." For his part, Irish MP Mick Wallace-Claire expressed his pride in participating with Yemenis in the commemoration of International Al-Quds Day in Sana'a. "It is a great honor for us to be here, for many years you have stood strong against the imperialist , Western aggression, and in 2015 they decided to launch a barbaric aggression on Yemen in an attempt by the colonial powers to control it, but they were unable to destroy Yemen, and this is a great position for the Yemenis," he said. Mick Wallace addressed the forces of global arrogance by saying, "Don't mess with the Yemenis, and for the second time I say to you, don't mess with the Yemeni people." He also addressed the Yemeni people by saying, "You are a united people and you will definitely win, and the Western empire will disappear and the future is for Yemen," stressing that he stands with Yemen in solidarity with the Palestinians in the face of the genocide that is taken against them, which is supported by many Western countries, but many European peoples differ from their governments. "We definitely stand with humanity , against US imperialism and the European peoples are definitely with the Palestinian , Yemeni people, and we will work hard to spread the truth to the length and breadth of European cities, and we will always stand with Palestine and Yemen," concluded the Irish MP. Brazilian journalist and geopolitical analyst described the people of Yemen as heroes. "You are the heroes and the American cowards are blowing up in Yemen, you are the heroes and they are the cowards and losers," he said. "The most important thing is that the world stands with you Yemenis, and you are supported from all over the world, freedom for Palestine, long live Yemen, and resistance forever," he added. American dissident and activist Jackson Hinkle expressed his pride in participating and being present today in the capital Sana'a on International Al-Quds Day in conjunction with the US aggression against Yemen. "I have the great honor to be with you today, I have never met brave people like you here today, and America and the Zionists are afraid of you and afraid of Yemen, because Yemenis do not fear anything except God," he said. "While America is bombing you and throwing bombs and shells at you, and we know that America and Zionism are ephemeral, because they wage war in the face of God, they are the losers, I thank you for receiving me today here with you and we will meet one day in Palestine." In the rallies, a speech addressed to the Yemeni people by Abu Hamza, the spokesman of Al-Quds Brigades, recorded hours before his martyrdom, was shown, he used the slogan of freedom and the cry in the arrogant face , "God is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse on the Jews, victory for Islam." He pointed out that the activities of the third conference in support of Palestine were held this year in Yemen under the title "You are not alone", adding, "Allahu Akbar - Death to America - Death to Israel - Damn the Jews - Victory to Islam, the slogan of innocence is a slogan and a path raised by the free brothers in the Yemen of wisdom and faith from ancient times to this day." He continued: "This resounding cry was nothing but a source of dignity and pride for all free and sincere people and a nightmare for the owners of the Western project, and the idea of establishing the Jewish Zionist entity on the land of Palestine came as a clear extension of unjust colonialism and to prevent any unity in our Arab and Islamic world." Martyr Abu Hamza stated that the Zionist project became clear in targeting the free people of the nation, including intellectual Fath al-Shakaki, Commander Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi and Imam Khomeini, pointing out that a counter front was formed for the Western-Zionist project, which is the axis of resistance extending from Palestine to Lebanon to Yemen, Iran and Iraq. He pointed out that the military and war path in "Al-Aqsa Flood" will inevitably lead to the demise of the Zionist entity in fulfillment of God's great promise and the clear conquest, considering the battle of "Al-Aqsa Flood" a major strategic turning point, which makes it imperative for everyone to take lessons and build on this achievement to liberate Palestine. He called for Islamic unity, supporting Palestine and its resistance, strengthening its steadfastness on its land, cutting off relations with the Zionist enemy, and stopping normalization with the Zionist enemy, which seizes opportunities to kill and build a nation-state. The official spokesman for Al-Quds Brigades described the Yemeni Arab-Islamic presence as a milestone in the flood of Al-Aqsa declaring war on the entity and imposing a naval blockade on it, stressing that the massive exit in Sabeen Square was a strong motivation for the Yemeni armed forces to continue and continue with all determination and insistence. He paid tribute to the dear great leader Abdul Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, whom we in the Palestinian resistance listened carefully to his detailed speech about the battle, its course and repercussions, as if he were present with us at the war front and the heart of the confrontation in Gaza. Lebanese journalist Ali al-Rida delivered a speech in which he emphasized that Yemen and Lebanon are one blood on the road to Al-Quds, stressing that Yemen will be victorious and raise the flag in Al-Aqsa Mosque. He pointed out that while the Zionist enemy is launching an aggression against Lebanon, America is launching an aggression against Yemen, stressing that these crowds in Sana'a will be present on the day of victory and liberation to raise the flag in Palestine. "From Lebanon to Yemen and from Palestine to Iraq, we swear that the Palestinian cause will not die and that we will remain until the last breath, until Al-Quds day , the day of victory and liberation," he said. For his part, Mamdouh Alwan Attia, a media activist and television director in the Arab Republic of Egypt, recited a poem in which he praised the Yemeni position led by Sayyid Abdulmalik al-Houthi against the Zionist and American aggression against Gaza and Yemen. A statement issued by the march, read by a member of the Supreme Board of the Yemen Scholars Association, Allama Fuad Muhammad Naji, emphasized that International Al-Quds Day, which was founded and called for its revival by Imam Khomeini, comes out of religious responsibility to be a day to awaken all Islamic peoples towards the Palestinian cause so that it remains alive in the souls of Muslims. He pointed out that International Quds Day coincides this year with the return of the criminal escalation on Gaza and its deadly siege by the criminal Zionist enemy with the participation of the American tyrant of the age in full view of the world, in light of the shameful and unprecedented Arab and Islamic inaction, as well as the continuation of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and Syria in an active and clear effort to implement the Zionist project called "Greater Israel" in the entire region. The statement explained that in response to God Almighty, jihad for His sake and seeking His pleasure in this holy month, Yemenis took to the streets today in massive million marches to commemorate International Quds Day, in continuation of their firm and principled position of faith, loyalty and support for the oppressed Palestinian Muslim people, and in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the National Day of Steadfastness. The Yemeni people's revival of International Al-Quds Day even in the most difficult circumstances during the long years of aggression against them without stopping or retreating is a proof of the sincerity of their religious affiliation, their real attachment to the holy sites and their high readiness to sacrifice for their liberation. The statement emphasized that this was translated by word and deed in the holy battle to defend Gaza , its people and Al-Quds, and is still in the heart of the battle to witness the greatness and strength of Islam in the face of the enemies of God, His Messenger, and His holy places, as well as the enemies of the nation of Islam represented by the imams of disbelief, America and Israel. The march statement reaffirmed Yemen's principled position that does not accept compromise or retreat, which is adherence to the Holy Book of Allah, adherence to His directives, loyalty to His loyalists and enmity to His enemies, continuing in the line of jihad in His way, and standing with the weak among His servants. It pointed out that Yemenis will continue to stand against the Zionist enemy and the American enemy in the face of their aggression against Gaza and Yemen, relying on God and trusting in His victory without retreating or failing until He grants His victory over us, as He is the guardian of that and is able to do so. On the tenth anniversary of the National Day of Steadfastness, the march's statement expressed praise and thanks to God Almighty, who proved Yemenis and helped them to withstand the US, Saudi and Emirati alliance of aggression, which committed the most heinous crimes against the Yemenis, including killing, blockade, looting of wealth and destruction of infrastructure, despite all this. It also stressed that the fruits of Yemeni steadfastness are this honorable stance in support of the Palestinian, adding, "Just as we previously withstood the worst US, Saudi and Emirati aggression for years because of our stance refusing to submit to America, Israel and their hypocritical tools in the region and our adherence to our principles and values, we are fully prepared to continue our steadfastness and jihad against the imams of disbelief and the owners of hypocrisy and manufacture victories."
