Labubus located: Police track down $30,000 worth of popular collectibles stolen from warehouse

The Labubu craze culminated this week after California police recovered roughly $30,000 worth of Labubu dolls that were stolen from a warehouse. The fluffy, fang-toothed plush dolls have become all the rage, dangling from handbags and backpacks. The collectible dolls, mainly sold by Pop Mart, have grown to be a coveted commodity, frequently out of stock due to the surge in demand. The Labubus were stolen in a series of trips that spanned multiple days, the Chino Police Department said in a social media post Tuesday. Law enforcement found the items at a home in Upland, next to Los Angeles. There, a suspect attempted to flee but ultimately surrendered without incident, police said. The suspect has not been identified. Investigators found 14 boxes of stolen items and evidence indicating the suspects were planning to resell and ship the collectibles across the country, the department said. The recovery comes days after a group of masked thieves stole about $7,000 worth of Labubus from One Stop Sales, a store in La Puente known for selling the toothy monsters. One Stop Sales said in an Instagram post that the thieves took all of the store's inventory and ransacked the store. Surveillance video captured a group of people wearing hoodies and masks breaking in to the shop in the wee hours of August 6 before shuffling through items and leaving with boxes. 'We are still in shock,' the store said in its post, urging people to help find the burglars. The grinning dolls have really sunk their teeth into society since they were created in 2015 by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. The collectible figurines are often sold in 'blind boxes' – sealed containers holding a surprise item from a themed collection. The dolls' popularity seems to have stemmed from Lisa, from the K-pop band BlackPink, who shared her Labubu on her Instagram stories and even referred to Labubu as her 'baby' during an interview with Teen Vogue. Other celebrities have also jumped on the trend. Rihanna has been seen with a Labubu attached to her Louis Vuitton bag while Emma Roberts took to Instagram to open a blind box. Given the surge in demand, last month, Pop Mart said it expects at least a 350 percent profit and about a 200 percent jump in revenue for the first six months of the year.

(AP Photo/Markus Schreiber, File) CHINO, Calif. — A police department in Southern California recovered about US$30,000 worth of Labubu dolls that were stolen from a warehouse, the agency announced this week. The collectible items have recently surged in popularity. The Labubus were stolen in a series of trips that spanned multiple days, the Chino Police Department said in a social media post. Detectives found 14 boxes of stolen items and evidence indicating the suspects were planning to resell and ship the collectibles across the country, the department said. (AP Photo/Markus Schreiber) LOS ANGELES — A group of masked thieves stole about $7,000 worth of Labubu dolls from a Los Angeles-area store earlier this week, authorities said. The incident took place early Wednesday morning at a store in La Puente, a city about 18 miles (29 kilometres) east of Los Angeles, the LA County Sheriff's Department said. The department said the suspects used a stolen Toyota Tacoma in the incident, which was recovered shortly afterward. The agency said it was investigating the case and did not have additional information. The Labubu, a toy created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, have become a popular collectible item a decade after the toothy monsters were first introduced. Toy vendor One Stop Shop said in an Instagram post that the thieves 'took all of our inventory trashed our store.' Labubu craze forces Pop Mart to suspend offline sales in South Korea following similar UK move

SEOUL, June 16 – Chinese toymaker Pop Mart has temporarily suspended offline sales of its popular Labubu plush dolls and keyrings at all outlets in South Korea, following a similar move in the United Kingdom last month. The company's Korean branch announced on Instagram Story that it would halt sales nationwide citing safety concerns, amid overwhelming demand from local shoppers and tourists. 'Due to concerns raised over potential safety incidents at offline sales locations, and with the safety of our customers as our top priority, we have decided to temporarily suspend the offline sales of all Labubu plush dolls and Labubu plush keyring series. 'We are doing our utmost to resume sales with better service to meet your expectations. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and kindly ask for your understanding. Thank you,' it said in the statement. It did not specify when sales would resume. Korea Times reported that in South Korea, prices for Labubu merchandise range from 15,000 won to 268,000 won (RM54 to RM957). The brand currently operates seven official offline locations across the country, including four in Seoul, one in Busan, and two in Gyeonggi Province – Suwon and Anseong. The plush toys, resembling a rabbit-like monster, have surged in popularity after endorsements from celebrities such as K-pop star Lisa, Rihanna, and Dua Lipa. Their limited availability has drawn buyers from abroad to the UK, with Pop Mart — the distributor of Labubu dolls — seeing overnight queues and chaotic scenes outside its flagship stores. In Singapore, CCTV footage captured a family stealing Labubu dolls from a claw machine, according to Singaporean online media outlet AsiaOne. In California, The Sun reported a car break-in in which three Labubu toys were taken.
