Horrific moment mum drags two cops down road after speeding off during traffic stop – as she's jailed
THIS is the horrific moment a mum dragged two cops down a road after speeding off during a traffic stop. Lauren Baird, 43, had been pulled over by police, who noticed her car was not insured. 4 But in a "moment of panic", the mum-of-two sped off as the officers were still clinging to the vehicle. Footage showed the cops being dragged along the road in Aviemore, Scotland, before one manages to detach themself. But a female officer was only able to let go several yards up the street and was left needing crutches. Baird sobbed as she was jailed for 18 months today after admitting culpable and reckless conduct to the danger of life. She also pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by giving false details and attempting to conceal her vehicle and driving without a licence or insurance. Sentencing, Sheriff Sara Matheson said: "This was appalling behaviour. "It put two officers' lives in danger. It was pure luck their injuries weren't a lot worse. But it has had a significant psychological effect on them." Inverness Sheriff Court was told Baird had been driving through Aviemore on July 10, 2023, when she was stopped by police. A computer check had revealed her car had no insurance but Baird gave a false name and details to the officers. After she was challenged, the mum sped off - with both cops narrowly avoiding being dragged under her wheels. Police were able to track her down to the hotel where she was staying and found the car concealed in a forest nearby. Both officers were taken to hospital with multiple injuries - including grazing and bruising. The female officer has still not been able to return to work following the horror. Natalie Paterson, representing Baird, told the court she had panicked and not foreseen the "terrible consequences" of her actions, which she fully regretted. As well as a jail term, Baird was disqualified from driving for 43 months. Supt Andrew Barclay, from Police Scotland, said: "Whilst neither officer sustained serious physical injury her behaviour was very dangerous and has had a significant affect on those officers involved. "A police officer's job, by its very nature, often means they can find themselves dealing with volatile and dangerous situations to protect the communities we serve. "It is totally unacceptable for officers to be put in harms way or injured by the irresponsible actions of others." 4 4

Footy star Sarantis Parissos learns his fate after dragging female cop down a road in horror hit and run and stealing a police car in front of officers
Former soccer star and seafood heir Sarantis Parissos has been sentenced to six years in jail for a series of shocking offences that left two police officers injured and one questioning her future in the force. The 41-year-old, who once played for Adelaide Olympic and professionally in Greece, faced the South Australian District Court for two separate incidents involving police in 2021 and 2022. In January 2022, Parissos was spotted speeding in a black Range Rover along Sir Donald Bradman Drive in Adelaide. Police, supported by PolAir, tracked the car through Fulham Gardens and attempted to apprehend him on Merlin Road. As officers approached, Parissos reversed the vehicle, dragging a female police officer several metres down the road before fleeing the scene. He dumped the car near Grange Road and attempted to escape on foot but was struck by an oncoming car after running into traffic. He suffered a broken neck, while the female officer was also hospitalised with injuries. In a victim impact statement, the officer said the incident left her physically and mentally traumatised. She described 2022 as 'the worst year of my life' and said she had been left 'frozen in pain' by the ordeal. 'I try my best to enjoy my job, but I don't think I can remain as a police officer due to the trauma of this incident,' she said. 'My health is worth more than being treated like a speed bump.' The hit-and-run was not an isolated incident. Just one month earlier, in December 2021, Parissos stole a police car during a separate confrontation in Broadview. Bodycam footage shows officers attempting to detain him when he ran towards their patrol vehicle. Despite urgent commands to stop, Parissos jumped into the car and drove away with a female passenger. A female officer frantically radioed for help, reporting the vehicle had been taken and was heading east with sirens activated. Moments later, both officers were flung from the stolen vehicle. A male officer was thrown 10 metres, dislocating his shoulder. He later said he feared for his life, believing he could have been 'flung across a main road at speed.' Parissos was eventually arrested and charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving, hindering police and causing harm. He pleaded guilty to all charges. His defence lawyer, Tim Clarke, told the court Parissos had been using drugs at the time and acknowledged his 'catastrophically bad' decisions. The court heard that Parissos had written apology letters to the injured officers. He had previously worked for his family's seafood business, Parissos Seafoods, which has since been sold to Silver Bay Seafoods on November 12, 2024. Parissos is also a father and had shown early promise as a footballer before injury cut short his sporting career. The judge's comments noted his complete disregard for public safety and the wellbeing of officers involved. One of the incidents saw Parissos crash into a stationary police vehicle before fleeing on foot. The events unfolded in full view of bystanders and were later widely shared via media coverage. The court acknowledged that while Parissos had shown remorse, the impact on the victims was long-lasting. The female officer injured in the January 2022 incident continues to suffer both physically and psychologically. The male officer injured during the stolen patrol car incident described ongoing complications and anxiety.

Man fatally shot by Winnipeg police Friday identified by family
A man who was shot by Winnipeg police late last week and later died in hospital has been identified by his family. Dillon Warren Breed, 32, was identified by his mother, Doreen Henderson, to CBC News as the man who was fatally shot Friday evening. His family in Ontario is now making arrangements to travel to the Manitoba capital. "Dillon was loved by many and his passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him," said part of the description of a fundraiser for Breed's family. Police watchdog investigating Winnipeg police said in a statement Saturday they were called to the back lane in the 200 block of Ferry Road because of a man behaving suspiciously and "possibly attempting to break into residences." Police said the man was "covered in blood." Officers found the man "armed with a screwdriver" behind a home at 6:16 p.m. Friday, police said. "A use of force encounter occurred and unfortunately resulted in our members shooting the individual," said Winnipeg police Chief Gene Bowers, who called a weekend news conference Saturday to speak about the incident. Bowers also said the officers, who he met with on Friday night, will be "out of the workplace" in line with the department's critical incident protocol. Manitoba's police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation. The IIU — which investigates all serious matters involving police in the province — is asking anyone who may have information or video footage of the incident that may help investigators to call 1-844-667-6060.

Man charged with hitting police officer with pickup truck on Chicago's Northwest Side
A man was facing multiple felony charges Sunday night after police said he hit a Chicago police officer with a truck in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The man was shot and wounded by Chicago police in the incident. Carlos Sanchez-Roa, 28, of Hammond, Indiana, was charged with one felony count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and aggravated assault on a peace officer. Police said just after 2 a.m. Saturday, police were called for a battery in progress and shots fired outside a business near Belmont and Central avenues. An employee told officers that during a large fight, someone had fired a gun and directed them to the person, a 28-year-old man, who was getting into a red pickup truck. As officers approached on foot and ordered the man out of the vehicle. He refused and accelerated the vehicle in their direction, hitting an officer, police said. The officers then fired their weapons at the truck as it continued to leave the scene. Responding officers found the truck in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue a few blocks away, where the man, who had been hit by the officers' gunfire, was on the ground near the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds to his body. The man was arrested and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Police said a weapon was recovered from inside the truck. Police said Sanchez-Roa was due in court for a detention hearing on Monday.
