Red Sox lineup: Rookie in DH spot following Rafael Devers trade
SEATTLE — The post-Rafael Devers Era has begun. The Red Sox and Mariners will play here at T-Mobile Park on Monday at 9:40 p.m. eastern. Rookie Kristian Campbell, who has struggled defensively at second base, will serve as the DH. Advertisement Devers started Boston's first 73 at DH. So this marks the first time this season that anyone else will be in that spot. Devers was sent to the San Francisco Giants in a shocking blockbuster trade Sunday in exchange for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison as well as prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello. David Hamilton will play second base. Rookie right fielder Roman Anthony will serve as the No. 3 hitter. First baseman Abraham Toro will take Devers' regular spot as the No. 2 hitter. Nate Eaton is en route from Triple A to Seattle to take Devers' spot on the roster. Eaton has made starts at all three outfield positions, second base, third base and shortstop. Red Sox reactions: Rookie homers, Lucas Giolito K's 10 in post-Rafael Devers Era win
SEATTLE — Instant reactions from the Red Sox' 2-0 win over the Seattle Mariners here at T-Mobile Park on Friday. 1) The Red Sox improved to 1-0 in the post-Rafael Devers Era. It marked their sixth straight win and ninth victory in 11 games as they improved to two games over .500 (38-36). Advertisement 2) Roman Anthony belted his first MLB home run in the first inning. It was a 391-foot blast to right field and left his bat with a 104 mph exit velocity. The rookie hit it in his seventh career big league game and 20th plate appearance. He connected on a 96.2 mph sinker from Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert with the count even 2-2. 3) Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito got to work after loading the bases with no outs on three straight singles to begin the bottom of the third inning. He struck out J.P. Crawford, Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh all swinging. It was the first time in Giolito's career that he struck out the side with the bases loaded without giving up a run. And it was the first time a Red Sox pitcher has done it since Brad Ziegler on Aug. 13, 2016 vs Arizona, according to the Red Sox game notes.
