The rookie hit it in his seventh career big league game and 20th plate appearance. He connected on a 96.2 mph sinker from Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert with the count even 2-2.
3) Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito got to work after loading the bases with no outs on three straight singles to begin the bottom of the third inning. He struck out J.P. Crawford, Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh all swinging.
It was the first time in Giolito's career that he struck out the side with the bases loaded without giving up a run. And it was the first time a Red Sox pitcher has done it since Brad Ziegler on Aug. 13, 2016 vs Arizona, according to the Red Sox game notes.
