Cyclist (60s) killed in collision with van in Co Cork

A man in his 60s has died following a collision in Co Cork on Wednesday. The collision, which involved a van and a cyclist, occurred on the N25 at Carrigtwohill at about 5pm. Emergency services attended the incident but the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary at University Cork Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. A man and a woman have died following a house fire in Connemara, County and gardaí (Irish police) were alerted to the blaze at Gleann Mhic Mhuireann, near the village of Casla, at about 06:20 local time on bodies of the woman, who was in her 70s, and the man in his 30s were recovered from the property by firefighters. Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported that the cause of the fire is under examination but at this stage foul play is not suspected. It added that the dead woman is believed to be from the United States originally. Both bodies were taken to University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examinations and gardaÍ have appealed for witnesses.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian, at Dublin Road (R135), in Ashbourne, Co Meath, on Saturday. Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of the collision, which occurred at about 7.10pm. The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, where a postmortem examination is expected to place. READ MORE The male driver and passenger of the car, aged in their 20s, were conveyed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. The road was closed pending technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. It was expected to remain closed until mid-afternoon on Sunday. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí. Human remains discovered on island in St. Lawrence River in eastern Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the discovery of human remains on an island on the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque. Police say officers responded to a call for a person at approximately 10 a.m. Monday, reporting they found remains on the island. 'The identity of the deceased has not been determined, and it is not known how long the individual has been deceased,' police said. 'The OPP does not believe there is any indication of a risk to public safety.' A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122, and refer to incident E250634280. Gananoque is located between Kingston and Brockville along the St. Lawrence River.
