Damaged Baltic Sea power cable Estlink 2 seen back in operation late June
STOCKHOLM, May 30 (Reuters) - Finnish power grid operator Fingrid said on Friday it expects the Estlink 2 subsea power cable between Finland and Estonia, which was damaged in December, to return to commercial use on June 25, slightly earlier than seen before. Fingrid, which last month predicted the cable would be back in operation on July 15, said in a statement repair work was progressing faster than expected. Finnish authorities in December seized a ship carrying Russian oil in the Baltic Sea on suspicion it caused the outage by dragging its anchor across the power cable as well as four internet lines.

Greece Hooks Up Undersea Power Link to Crete as Part of Mediterranean Grid Plans
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece announced Monday it has completed the work on an undersea power cable link connecting the mainland to the island of Crete, a key step in its ambitious plan for a wider expansion of the grid in the Eastern Mediterranean that will eventually include Cyprus and Israel. The 1 billion euro ($1.14 billion) link spanning 330 kilometers (205 miles) was plugged in on Saturday and is expected to be fully operational this summer, Greece's grid operator said.

Disruption across Sydney train network after high-voltage cable falls on carriage, trapping passengers
Up to 300 passengers are stranded on a train near Sydney's Strathfield station after a high-voltage power cable came down on top of carriages. Train services on most lines running between Sydney's Central Station and Lidcombe have been halted, with only the southern T4 line running normally. Sydney Trains said it was working to isolate the overhead 15,000-volt wiring. Howard Collins, coordinator general of Transport for NSW, said crews needed to shut off the power cable before attempting to remove the passengers from the affected train to the nearest station. "The power connection device on the train has collided with a number of wires, the overhead wire system," he explained at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. A short time after he spoke, people could be seen emerging from the train. Mr Collins said rideshare service Uber had agreed to price cap. "I'd ask customers and passengers to be aware if you're not travelling please do not do so on the rail network." It is still not clear what caused the live wire to come down on the carriage. Buses are being brought in to replace services later in the evening but major delays will continue across the network.
