2.75 lakh double votes, CPM manipulated list, alleges BJP

T'puram: Ratcheting up the attack against alleged irregularities in the voters' list prepared by the state election commission ahead of the local body polls, the BJP state unit claimed that there were at least 2.75 lakh double votes in the revised voters' list. BJP state general secretary Anoop Antony told a news conference on Thursday that the BJP identified a large number of bogus and duplicate voters, and this, he said, was the handiwork of the LDF govt. The CPM manipulated the voters' list in connivance with govt employees associating with the pro-Left unions, he said. "The Left's foreboding of a poor performance in the upcoming local body elections prompted them to engage in such manipulative activities. Efforts to manipulate the elections began with ward delimitation, and realising that this alone wouldn't suffice, they resorted to tampering with the voter list," he said, adding that attempts to manipulate the elections fall into three categories multiple votes/voters with the same ID card, the same individual having votes in different places under the same ID card number and different ID card numbers for the same address, individual and guardian, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo "In Kerala, 2,76,799 people have duplicate votes. In Thiruvananthapuram corporation alone, 7,216 people have duplicate votes. Ward 76 in Thiruvananthapuram corporation, Beemapally, is an example of the manipulation attempts. During the final delimitation, the population was 9,875 but the draft voter list shows it as over 16,000," Antony said. Immediate action is needed to identify and eliminate the thousands of duplicate votes. The BJP demands a thorough investigation into the issue and criminal action against the officials involved in the manipulation, he said. The BJP has filed complaints in Thiruvananthapuram corporation and other places. Antony urged the Election Commission to take these complaints seriously and conduct an investigation. Administration crisis worsens in Kerala University; BJP syndicate members to move High Court

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The administrative crisis in Kerala University worsened on Friday with Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohanan Kunnummal deciding not to consider files sent by K S Anil Kumar, whose suspension from the post of registrar was revoked by the syndicate but not endorsed by Kunnummal. Meanwhile, Mini Dijo Kappen, who was given the charge of registrar by Kunnummal, continued to be denied access to e-files owing to pressure from the Left-backed syndicate. Owing to the standoff, decisions taken by both Mini and Anil remained only on paper. According to sources, Mini has reportedly told the VC to exempt her from the registrar role in the wake of stiff opposition from syndicate members and pro-Left university staff. Amid the impasse, the Left-backed syndicate members have given a letter to Kunnummal demanding that a meeting of the syndicate be convened at the earliest. As university rules stipulate convening of syndicate meeting once every two months, the VC is reportedly not in favour of conceding to the request. It was a special syndicate meeting on July 6 that revoked Anil's suspension. However, the VC had termed the meeting 'invalid'. In another significant development, two pro-BJP members in the syndicate have decided to move the High Court seeking its intervention in breaking the administrative deadlock in the university. The pro-BJP members are opposed to Anil Kumar's continuance in the post. Meanwhile, SFI continued with its protest in the university against the VC.
