Work underway near Sherwood Park school to replace road and sidewalks, install roundabout

The intersection of Oak Street at Beauvista Drive/Brentwood Boulevard in Sherwood Park on Aug. 12, 2025. A stretch of road in the heart of Sherwood Park is getting a makeover and a roundabout. Crews started work on Friday along Oak Street west of Sherwood Drive to the intersection with Beauvista Drive and Brentwood Boulevard. The county says access to homes and the facilities will be kept open during construction, but that occasional detours may be needed. Sidewalks, curbs and gutters deemed defective by project managers will be replaced, the county said, while the road will be resurfaced completely. They will also install curb extensions at the intersection's crosswalks, which will be relocated from their current spot to reduce crossing distances. The Oak Street project comes as crews continue work on another that started in June: improvements to the sanitary line along Brentwood Boulevard from Festival Way to Beauvista Drive. A spokesperson on behalf of the county told CTV News Edmonton the projects, adjacent to St. Theresa Catholic School, 'were strategically phased to enhance construction efficiencies, minimize disruptions, maintain traffic flow and reduce impacts (to) residents.' The county expects the work on Oak Street will take two to four weeks, meaning construction will not be finished when students return to school, with the first day of classes scheduled for Aug. 28. The spokesperson said the county 'has been aware of this possibility and is working closely with the contractor to minimize disruptions and ensure safe, reliable vehicle access — including for school buses — during school drop-off and pick-up times.'
