Browns punt team secures first turnover of 2025 preseason
On just the second punt of the game, the Cleveland Browns' special teams secured the first turnover of their 2025 preseason. This time, it came on a muffed punt gifted to Cleveland by the Panthers' starting special teams unit. One that the Browns capitalized on thanks to the arm of Shedeur Sanders.
After a booming kick by punter Corey Bojorquez, Panthers rookie Trevor Etienne failed to catch one of his first NFL punt returns. The muffed punt was then scooped up by second-year Browns linebacker Nathaniel Watson and returned to the Carolina 10-yard line. Etienne had a difficult angle on the sky-high punt but will have plenty of opportunities to redeem himself before his Week 1 debut.
It was a key play for Watson and an unfortunate one for the rookie Etienne. The Browns capitalized on the turnover with a touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders and will look to keep the momentum going through the rest of the preseason matchup.
