Pursuit near Hillsboro, North Dakota, ends with man seriously injured

Jun. 1—HILLSBORO, N.D. — A police pursuit near Hillsboro over the weekend ended when a man crashed his motorcycle. The incident began shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, on Traill County Highway 81, about 5 miles south of Hillsboro. According to a report issued by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old Gardner, N.D., man was driving a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle. The driver's name has not yet been released. The release said law enforcement received a call about a reckless motorcycle driver on Interstate 29, near the Mayville exit. Troopers responded and tried to stop the motorcycle, but instead a pursuit began, eventually leaving the interstate and heading onto rural highways. According to the NDHP release, "the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, entered the west ditch, overturned a number of times and came to rest in the ditch where the driver was ejected. NDHP personnel on scene rendered medical aid. The driver was transported by ambulance, then life-flighted to a local hospital." The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

Driver tries to flee, gets stuck in the mud instead

CLARK COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A driver who thought he could outrun law enforcement found himself out of luck — and out of traction — after a pursuit ended with his vehicle stuck in the mud. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the chase began when a Clark County Sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop on a blue GMC Sierra. Instead of pulling over, the driver hit the gas, kicking off a multi-agency pursuit across the rural landscape. Suspect arrested after deputy fires shots in Garden City With help from the Kansas Highway Patrol and deputies in Ford and Comanche counties, officers tracked the truck to a spot just east of Kansas Highway 34, south of Road M — where Mother Nature brought the chase to a halt. The pickup ran out of road and got bogged down in the mud, making the suspect an easy catch for officers. 'Always remember, fleeing adds charges… and we will catch you,' the Kansas Highway Patrol wrote in a social media post recapping the incident — punctuated with siren emojis and a reminder that teamwork makes the takedown work. No injuries were reported, and public safety officials praised the coordination between counties and dispatchers who helped bring the muddy pursuit to a safe end. For more Kansas news, click here. Woodland Hills pursuit suspect shot by police was armed with BB gun

A Los Angeles Police Department investigation has determined that the pursuit suspect shot by officers in Woodland Hills on Monday was armed with a BB gun that resembled a pistol. Wednesday's department update said that Claudia Corugedo, 42, was treated at a hospital for her wounds and was booked for felony evading. The entire ordeal lasted nearly three hours, causing neighbors in the area where the pursuit ended to take shelter in their homes as a standoff with law enforcement ensued. It all began around 7:15 a.m., as police responded to a North Hollywood shooting investigation involving a white van with multiple bullet holes in its windshield. Police learned that the woman in the van, Corugedo, had a felony warrant and they attempted to detain her. Police said she pulled out what appeared to be a semiautomatic pistol and held it to her throat. Corugedo then led officers on a pursuit around 7:45 a.m., which ended at a Woodland Hills cul-de-sac. After refusing orders to surrender during the neighborhood standoff, police said the suspect was armed with a large machete while continuing to point what appeared to be a pistol at her throat. The LAPD investigative report said "Corugedo began walking toward the front door of a residence while still holding the pistol and machete, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred. Corugedo was struck by gunfire and collapsed near the entryway of the residence." Neighbor Katrina Escalante said she heard the commotion in their Woodland Hills neighborhood around 8 a.m. "We were sleeping and then helicopters were really loud and started going around the neighborhood, and saying like "please stay inside your house, lock your doors, there is an armed suspect in your neighborhood, be safe, do not leave your house,'" she said. At one point, aerial footage caught Corugedo standing on the top of her van, and later lying on the outside entryway area of a home. SWAT officers ultimately took Corugedo into custody around 10:30 a.m., where she was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The police investigation determined that Corugedo was holding a BB gun designed to resemble a semiautomatic pistol. A metal machete was also recovered at the scene.
