US, China begin second day of trade talks in London
Top economic officials from the United States and China began their second day of trade talks in London on Tuesday. The discussion is expected to focus on China's restrictions on rare earth exports and US restrictions on semiconductor-related shipments. Participants in the talks include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick from the US, and Vice Premier He Lifeng and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao from China. In May, the two countries reached a deal that includes suspending for 90 days some of the additional tariffs imposed on each other's products, allowing them to continue with negotiations. The US side has accused China of delaying exports of rare earth metals after the agreement and urged the country to stop the export restrictions. The Chinese side is believed to be calling on the US to scrap restrictions on semiconductor-related exports. The talks are expected to focus on each other's export restrictions, as Lutnick and Wang, who are in charge of export control in their countries, are attending. US media outlet Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that the US signaled a willingness to remove restrictions on some tech exports in exchange for assurances that China would ease limits on rare earth shipments.

The talks concluded around 8 p.m. London time and will resume Tuesday in the British capital, the official said. 'We are doing well with China. China's not easy,' Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday. 'I'm only getting good reports.' US and China hold trade talks in London
US and Chinese officials held trade talks in London on Monday. Beijing's restrictions on rare earth exports are believed to have topped the agenda. The US sent Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. China dispatched Vice Premier He Lifeng, who heads up economic policy, and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. Their discussions are expected to continue into Tuesday. The talks come after US President Donald Trump spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the phone last week. The two leaders agreed to have their negotiators continue to hammer out a deal reached in Geneva last month. That agreement included cutting some tariffs on each other's products for 90 days. But Washington has accused Beijing of holding up exports of rare earth minerals and other products.
