Who's in the running to be Waterloo Region's newest councillor
There are a long list of candidates vying for an open seat on Waterloo Region council.
It was previously held by Kari Williams, who passed away in June after a battle with cancer.
At a meeting on June 25, council announced its plan to begin accepting applications for the seat representing the City of Kitchener.
To qualify, candidates had to fill out a form and confirm they were a Canadian citizen, lived in the Region of Waterloo and were at least 18 years old.
The deadline to apply was Aug. 1.
All aspiring candidates will address council at a special meeting on Aug. 14. At the conclusion of that meeting, council will pick a new councillor.
They will be given the oath of office the following day.
The first meeting for the successful candidate, as a regional councillor, will be Aug. 27.
