(Daryl Newcombe/CTV News London) High above ice level, members of the London Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team have been honing their repelling skills by descending from the rafters inside Canada Life Place. One by one, the firefighters were connecting their harness to the ropes, stepping over the railing, and descending to the ground below. 'These skills here could be deployed from a bridge abutment, an electrical tower, cranes, or even buildings,' Platoon Chief Jamie Britton explained. 'I can't speak enough about Canada Life Place, allowing us to be able to use their great facility here,' he said. General Manager Kelly Austin said Canada Life Place has a history of assisting emergency services with training. 'We're happy to have them anytime they want to come in. We've had the London Police Service that have done training exercises in here too,' Austin said.

BREAKING: Man impaled by stick during repelling accident, airlifted to medical facility

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post with more information as it becomes available. ALPINE, Utah () — A 40-year-old man is currently being transported to a medical facility after suffering a serious accident while repelling. According to Utah County Sheriff's Office, the man was repelling in the Three Falls area, near Alpine, when he fell and was impaled by a stick into his upper thigh. Utah County Search and Rescue and Lone Peak Fire District responded to the accident and were able to subsidize the bleeding by applying pressure to the wound. Life Flight arrived on the scene to hoist the man out of the area. He is currently being airlifted to an ambulance, which will transport him to a medical facility. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
