Disgusting elderly abuse caught on camera in senior living home

Authorities rescued 10 elderly men and women and shut down a retirement home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on Thursday following leaked videos that unmasked the abuse of at least three seniors. The disturbing footage – which went viral on social media Wednesday – showed a female worker at the Santa Sofia Retirement facility approaching an elderly woman and choking her. A second chilling video showed one of the owners, Águeda Rodríguez, walking over to an elderly couple sitting on a couch and climbing on top of a woman before she squeezed her neck for about 12 seconds. Another terrifying video showed two workers apparently shaking a senior, who could be heard groaning despite being out of the camera's view. One of the employees, a woman, laughed and smelled her finger while telling the victim that they smelled like feces. A fourth video capture one of the female workers at the senior living home placing an elderly woman on a bearhug and repeatedly lifting her off the ground while she screamed in pain. The abuse incidents were said to have occurred in 2023. The seniors, six men and four women, were transferred to a state-run senior living center. 'We can't allow it. There are people with practically open wounds. There are bruises,' San Luis Potosí Civil Defense director, Mauricio Ordaz, told NMas+. 'We don't know why it happened.' A former employee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to network, noticed the seniors being harmed and asked his coworkers why they didn't intervene. 'From the first day I arrived there, the abuse came from the workers and the owner,' he said. 'So, when I realized this, I asked why they didn't do anything.' Another worker named Alex told the outlet that he witnessed the senior being beaten and threatened with further cruel punishment if they told their family. 'I had to intervene because one of the residents was slapped once,' he said. A third worker revealed that the owner would often stick her fingers into the mouths of the seniors and 'pull their hair and smack the grandparents.' Rodríguez, a registered nurse, denied the abuse ever took place. 'Unfortunately, these videos are manipulated,' Rodríguez said. They're taken from certain angles. I have nothing to hide. I've been a nurse for many years. 'I love my profession and have never, ever done anything wrong or against grandparents.' The San Luis Potosí State Attorney General's Office launched an investigation of the Rodríguez and her staff. The Santa Sofia Retirement home did not have a license to operate and did not have first aid kits and fire extinguishers available.
