This Mississippi city offers one of the most enviable lifestyles in the US. What to know
The Robert DeKanski Team of RE/MAX says an "envied lifestyle" used to be shorthand for wealth and celebrity. But today, more people are looking for low cost of living, security, beauty and breathing room.
With that in mind, they surveyed more than 3,000 Americans to determine the 170 most envied places to live.
Which Mississippi town made the list of the 'most envied places to live'?
Madison came in at No. 149.
World Atlas also recently named it one of the best small towns in the Magnolia State.
The median home listing price is about $484,700, according to The median household income is $120,918, per the U.S. Census Bureau.
What is the quality of life like in Madison, MS?
Niche ranked Madison as the best place to live in Mississippi. The Jackson suburb received an overall grade of A+.
It has an A+ in public schools, jobs, and family friendliness. It also has an A in housing and health and fitness. The town received a B+ in outdoor activities, diversity, and weather, and a B in cost of living. Madison got a B- in nightlife, and it's worst grade was a C+ for its commute.
The city is one of 12 in the Mississippi Hometown Retirement Program, also known as Welcome Home Mississippi. The program uses no state income tax on retirement income, a tax exemption on the first $75,000 of a home's true value and no state gift or inheritance taxes as selling points.
Certified cities "maintain high standards and boast many of the qualities and amenities retirees often seek when choosing a retirement destination," according to the program's site.
What's the safest city in Mississippi?
A home safety and security company used crime data to determine the most dangerous cities in Mississippi.
According to Reolink, FBI data shows Madison is the safest city in the state. It has about 7 crimes per 1,000 people.
They attribute the success to "active neighborhood watch groups and "active neighborhood watch groups and well‑funded policing."
