Moment driver slashes truck's tires with huge knife in ‘road rage' row before casually sauntering off

THIS is the moment a driver slashed a truck's tyres with a huge knife before casually sauntering off back to his car. A passerby filmed the motorist as he furiously sawed at the tyre of a traffic management lorry with a blade. 4 4 4 The incident went down outside The Beaconsfield pub in West Kensington. The lorry appeared to be a traffic enforcement truck with cones on the back of the trailer. It's unclear what sparked the incident. He looked up and saw he was being filmed, but this didn't deter him. The man - dressed in shorts, a t-shirt and cap - then shoved the knife in his trousers. He then casually crossed the road back to his parked car - past one of the road workers. The motorist then appeared to turn back and wave at the camera as he entered his car. The Met Police confirmed it did not attend the incident. 4

Suspected syndicate behind attacks on workers, says Eastern Cape transport department

Following a series of attacks on contractors fixing roads, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport suspects that a syndicate is targeting workers and taking their equipment. 'There seems to be a syndicate targeting the department's yellow fleet used by our in-house teams to maintain and repair mainly rural roads,' spokesperson Unathi Binqose said. He added that the attacks were 'making it difficult for the Eastern Cape Department of Transport to execute its mandate'. 'The most recent of these attacks occurred on the R61, where our team of road workers had to run for their lives as gunshots were fired at the crane truck they were travelling in. The team was driving to Komani after attending to some potholes on the R408 between Engcobo and Dutywa.' The team was forced to abandon the truck, which was damaged when a bullet hit one of its engine components, and flee to a nearby village. 'This is the third attempted hijack of the yellow fleet in just over a month,' he added. Earlier this week, a tipper truck was stolen. It was later recovered in Elliotdale in the Amathole district. News24 previously reported that a group of armed men robbed provincial transport department construction workers last month. The workers had been sent to repair a flood-damaged road in Cala in the Chris Hani district of the Eastern Cape. Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha said a bakkie driven by a group of armed balaclava-clad men approached the workers while they were working at a quarry. The men tied them up, demanded keys to their bakkie, and removed several tyres from their tipper truck. They loaded them onto the stolen bakkie, and both bakkies sped off, leaving the crew stranded but unharmed, Nqatha added. The incident occurred days after Gift of the Givers Foundation aid workers were intimidated while providing essential aid to flood victims in Mthatha. According to the OR Tambo District Municipality, the workers were threatened by people who demanded that they stop supporting hundreds of residents displaced by recent flooding in the province.

Watch: UAE workers build makeshift shelter as rains hit Khor Fakkan, welcome relief from heat

As summer peaks in the UAE, rain showers in some parts of the country brought welcome relief for the residents. In a video shared by Storm Centre on Monday (July 14), rains are seen falling along the roads of Khor Fakkan, with droplets dancing on the pavement. Road workers, caught in the unexpected downpour, quickly gathered under a makeshift shelter. But far from being bothered, they can be seen enjoying the moment — laughing and enjoying the much-needed relief from the intense summer heat. On June 28, parts of Al Ain — including Khatm Al Shakla and Malaqit — recorded heavy showers. It was also during that day that the country witnessed its first summer hail. Also, two years ago, summer flooding hit Fujairah. More recently, on June 8 last year, heavy rains were seen over parts of Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah. Al Watan Road — en route to Hatta — was lashed by thunderstorms and hail. According to meteorologists, hail during summer is actually not uncommon. It occurs when surface temperatures are warm, but the upper atmosphere is still cold enough to support ice. But while the occasional rain during the season brings respite, residents still need to be careful and take serious precautions to prioritise their health and safety. Summer in the UAE isn't just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to serious health conditions, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
