Asking Eric: Neighbor's new rooster disturbs retirees' peace
Dear Eric: One of our neighbors has acquired backyard chickens and a rooster. His chicken coop is not far from our bedroom window. Now that it's getting warmer, we like to sleep with the windows open to cool off the house at night. The rooster wakes up at 5:20 a.m., so now we do as well.

Jul. 11—Someone had questions about a loud rooster residing at a house and what the "rooster ordinances" were within city limits. Kalispell Police officers spoke with the owner of the expressive rooster, who said she would get rid of it within the week. Someone allegedly found a parrot on the wild streets of Kalispell. A woman reportedly headbutted someone's daughter. A man allegedly woke up and was startled by a drunk man on the couch. The stranger moved on to the apartment complex's laundry room. Police received a call from a woman wondering about the department's policy in "handling subjects with diplomatic immunity" and wanted an officer to call to verify her immunity status. A man went to the hospital after his allegedly jammed gun went off. He shot himself in the hand. A manager flagged down an officer, pointing to a red Subaru with a shattered windshield in the parking lot, saying he wanted it gone. A woman sitting inside the building reportedly complained, saying she just got there and was being "profiled." The officer advised her she had a suspended license and shouldn't be driving but needed to have the car moved. A woman's son reportedly threw a soda at her and hit her in the face. A woman cut off a green Ford hatchback that allegedly started tailgating her, trying to run her off the road. A transient reportedly set up a camp with a "blanket hut" and a shopping cart by an overpass. Officers called the woman multiple times to warn her about speeding with no answer. A customer was suspicious of a box truck that allegedly had no license plates. A man was reportedly tired of a homeless woman coming to his house asking for shoes and food after being told to stay away and wanted officers to tell her she could be cited for trespassing if she returned. A dealership allegedly refused to return a $500 deposit.
