Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projections before preseason opener
The Arizona Cardinals have a preseason game this week as they face the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday at State Farm Stadium. Training camp is coming to an end. We are closer to when they must trim down their roster to 53 players. With what we have learned in camp so far, this is a new 53-man roster projection for the Cardinals. Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projection: Preseason Week 1 Offense Quarterback: Kyler Murray, Jacoby Brissett Running back: James Conner, Trey Benson, Emeri Demercado, DeeJay Dallas Both positions seem like locks. Barring injury, there doesn't seem to be any possible movement. Clayton Tune is set for the practice squad and the same goes for Michael Carter, just like last season. Wide receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Zay Jones, Greg Dortch, Simi Fehoko It sounds like Xavier Weaver needs to show a little more, and the Cardinals can just go with five wideouts to accommodate for the offensive lineman. Fehoko's salary guarantees keep him here for now. Tight ends: Trey McBride, Elijah Higgins, Tip Reiman, Travis Vokolek The only possibility here changing might be keeping only three on the active roster to accomodate for a position somewhere else. Offensive line: Paris Johnson, Evan Brown, Hjalte Froholdt, Isaiah Adams, Jonah Williams, Kelvin Beachum, Will Hernandez, Jon Gaines, Christian Jones, Hayden Conner Hernandez isn't on the team but the belief is that he will be soon. We keep 10 offensive linemen to keep Jones and Conner. Defense Defensive line: Calais Campbell, Dalvin Tomlinson, Darius Robinson, Dante Stills, Justin Jones, L.J. Collier I still expect Walter Nolen and Bilal Nichols to start the season on PUP, so they won't count toward the 53-man roster, making their additions a future problem. Outside linebacker: Josh Sweat, Zaven Collins, Baron Browning, BJ Ojulari, Jordan Burch Ojulari is a guy to watch. He still is on PUP. Could he be traded if healthy? There wasn't room for Xavier Thomas. Inside linebacker: Mack Wilson, Akeen Davis-Gaither, Owen Pappoe, Cody Simon, Mykal Walker This group is probably a lock. Walker is there for special teams. Cornerback: Garrett Williams, Max Melton, Will Johnson, Kei'Trel Clark, Denzel Burke Jaylon Jones, being a solid special teams guy, is a player to watch who could move past Clark. Safety: Budda Baker, Jalen Thompson, Dadrion Tayor-Demerson, Joey Blount I'm not picking Kitan Crawford over Blount for special teams yet. Blount is still a core guy and Crawford can sit on the practice squad. Special teams P Blake Gillikin K Chad Ryland LS Aaron Brewer This group is locked in. New York Giants 53-man roster projection after Week 2 of training camp
In the blink of an eye, two weeks of training camp have come and gone for the New York Giants. When they return to the field on Monday, all eyes will be on the Buffalo Bills and their first of three preseason games. Positional competitions are heating up, and a pecking order is being established. Fringe players have just a few weeks to stake their claim to a 53-man roster spot or risk being cut loose. Every day matters. Here's a look at a 53-man roster projection from Giants Wire with two weeks of camp in the books. Quarterbacks (3) Starter: Russell Wilson Reserves: Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart There is no change here. Unless there is an unexpected injury, Tommy DeVito will likely be headed to the practice squad. Running backs (3) Starter: Tyrone Tracy Jr. Reserves: Devin Singletary, Cam Skattebo Like the quarterback position, there is no change here. Eric Gray remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and the big three, despite Skattebo's recent setback, have continued to practice at a high level. However, Dante Miller is worth keeping an eye on. He may sneak onto the roster. Wide receivers (7) Starters: Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson Reserves: Jalin Hyatt, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Beaux Collins, Dalen Cambre Bryce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles) has been lost for the season, opening the door for other youngsters. And while Lil'Jordan Humphrey has played well, we've removed both from the 53-man roster and replaced them with Collins and Cambre, a pair of undrafted rookies. Tight ends (4) Starter: Theo Johnson Reserves: Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, Thomas Fidone II This is a position that could be adjusted to three players in the event of a numbers crunch. For now, we have the Giants keeping four tight ends with Greg Dulcich as the odd man out. Offensive linemen (10) Starters: Andrew Thomas (LT), Jon Runyan Jr. (LG), John Michael Schmitz (C), Evan Neal (RG), Jermaine Eluemunor (RT) Reserves: Greg Van Roten, James Hudson, Joshua Ezeudu, Marcus Mbow, Jake Kubas The most notable change here isn't Joshua Ezeudu taking a spot from Aaron Stinnie, but Neal starting over Van Roten. The former first-round pick who busted at tackle has played unexpectedly well at guard and taken an abundance of first-team reps in Van Roten's absence. It makes you wonder why general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll waited so long to make the change. Defensive linemen (5) Starters: Dexter Lawrence (NT), Rakeen Nunez-Roches (DE), Roy Robertson-Harris (DE) Reserves: Darius Alexander, Elijah Chatman Chatman is back on the roster this time around and has even been taking some reps at fullback. Outside linebackers (4) Starters: Brian Burns, Abdul Carter Reserves: Kayvon Thibodeaux, Chauncey Golston The only change here is Carter starting over Thibodeaux. The rookie has been utterly dominant in camp and is playing at a significantly higher level than Thibodeaux (which isn't a knock on Thibs). Inside linebackers (4) Starters: Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden Reserves: Chris Board, Darius Muasau There is no change here. Okereke and McFadden are locked in, and Muasau is a core special teams player and sneaky good defender. Board is also a core special teamer. The Giants may add a fifth here if they want to stash another player for special teams. Cornerbacks (6) Starters: Paulson Adebo, Deonte Banks, Dru Phillips Reserves: Cor'Dale Flott, Tre Hawkins, Korie Black Banks and Flott are still battling it out for the CB2 spot, but Banks appears to be taking the lead. There is no change at this position. Safeties (4) Starters: Jevon Holland, Tyler Nubin Reserves: Dane Belton, K'Von Wallace In our last 53-man roster projection, we wrote, "The outlier here is that the team's fourth safety entering Week 1 likely isn't on the current roster." That turned out to be quite accurate. Anthony Johnson is out, and Wallace is in. Special teams (3) Starters: Graham Gano (K), Jamie Gillan (P), Casey Kreiter (LS) This doesn't really require any sort of explanation, does it?
