ICE arrests illegal aliens previously released in 'sanctuary' Massachusetts

EXCLUSIVE: ICE has arrested more illegal aliens from Massachusetts after the state's sanctuary policies led to their release into communities. Some of these individuals were convicted of serious charges, including solicitation to commit murder and assault and battery. "Despite sanctuary politicians and activists trying to disrupt ICE operations, our brave law enforcement removed gang members, drug traffickers, and other violent criminals from Massachusetts' streets. Some of these arrests included criminal aliens who were released by local authorities because of radical sanctuary policies," said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. "These sanctuary politicians are playing Russian roulette with American lives. While Massachusetts leaders release criminal aliens onto America's streets, President Trump and Secretary Noem are arresting them and getting them out of our country." One of the arrests includes an illegal migrant convicted for soliciting to commit murder. On May 5, 2025, ICE arrested Kleber Lasso an illegal alien from Ecuador. On July 24, 2018, Lasso was convicted of soliciting to commit murder and sentenced to only 1 year in jail. Brockton District Court failed to honor ICE's detainer and released this criminal back onto Massachusetts' streets, according to DHS. The Brockton court had no comment for Fox News Friday. "Massachusetts court officials do not have the legal authority and are therefore prohibited from holding an individual in custody solely on the basis of a Federal Civil Immigration Detainer," a Massachusetts court spokesperson told Fox News. "In order to comply with Massachusetts law, court officers are prohibited from assisting or interfering with ICE agents in executing their obligations under Federal law," the spokesperson said. "This means that a court officer will not interfere with ICE arresting an individual who has been released. On the other hand, court officers are prohibited from keeping a released individual in custody awaiting an ICE agent." On May 7, 2025, ICE arrested Senat Dufren, an illegal alien from Haiti, in Waltham, Massachusetts. He was previously arrested in Roxbury, Massachusetts, for assault and battery and malicious destruction of property. ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Nashua Street Jail. Local authorities did not honor the detainer and released Dufren. He is accused of later victimizing more innocent Americans – including a pregnant woman. He was then arrested again on Feb. 19, 2025, and charged with assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on family/household, and assault and battery. According to DHS, on May 10, 2025, ICE arrested Lusbel Lopez Feliz, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic. Lopez has faced several criminal charges throughout Massachusetts, including seven charges for distributing heroin/fentanyl and five different arraignments for distributing cocaine. Her detainer was not honored by local authorities following a previous arrest, and she was released into the community.

DHS Secretary Noem and Illinois Gov. Pritzker spar over state's immigration policies: "Performing for Fox News"

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Springfield, Illinois, on Wednesday, and slammed the state's Democratic leaders for Illinois' sanctuary policies protecting undocumented immigrants. Before she spoke, Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker's office said Noem's office does not communicate with them, and has not asked for support or coordination to enforce immigration laws. Noem stood in front of families who've lost loved ones after incidents involving immigrants who lack legal status. Standing alongside a handful of Illinois Republican state lawmakers, Noem criticized Pritzker, claiming Illinois doesn't protect its citizens, and demanded the state change. "I'm calling on Gov. Pritzker and all the other leaders of this state to abandon their dangerous sanctuary policies," she said. "I'm thankful for all the state leaders that are standing behind me who agree as well. They have been fighting an uphill battle with this governor, and I'm proud of them that they're standing here with us today and with these angel families, and saying enough is enough. We have to change as a state." In response to Noem's visit, the governor criticized the Trump administration's immigration policies, saying some of their efforts to deport migrants have been unconstitutional. "The Trump Administration is violating the United States Constitution, denying people due process, and disappearing law-abiding neighbors – including children who are U.S. citizens. Yet, they are taking no real action to promote public safety and deport violent criminals within the clear and defined legal process," Pritzker said in a statement. Pritzker's office has defended the state's sanctuary law, known as the Illinois Trust Act. "The Illinois Trust Act – which was bipartisan and signed into law by a Republican – is fully compliant with federal law. Despite the rhetoric of Republicans in Congress, this public safety law ensures law enforcement can focus on doing their jobs well while empowering all members of the public, regardless of immigration status, to feel comfortable calling police officers and emergency services if they are in need of help," Pritzker spokesman Alex Gough said. The Illinois Trust Act largely prohibits state, county, and local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in cases of civil immigration enforcement activities, but not in cases involving a criminal warrant or other court order. In cases where an undocumented immigrant has been arrested, ICE officials might issue a detainer asking police to hold them for 48 hours until ICE agents can take them into federal custody, but the Illinois TRUST Act prohibits such cooperation, except in cases where the person faces a federal criminal arrest warrant. In a statement, Pritzker called Noem's visit a publicity stunt that does "not make our communities safer or our immigration system smarter." "Illinois doesn't need to abuse power or ignore the Constitution to keep our people safe. Like the millions of Americans asking for sensible, humane immigration reform, I encourage the Secretary to spend less time performing for Fox News and more time protecting the Homeland," Pritzker said. "Secretary Noem must have not realized she was visiting during Latino Unity Day where we come together celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of our community. Today, Secretary Noem was met by a force stronger than her: the people of Illinois. Illinoisans are sending a clear message to Trump's lackeys that we will not let you mess with us without a resistance." Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias also wasted no time hitting back against Noem, saying she's traveling the country instead of doing her job. Giannoulias also accused her of weaponizing Wednesday's Real ID deadline — which requires people to have advanced identification in order to fly — to create fear. "The combination of cowardice, incompetence, and cruelty is a very scary mix. So while I'm glad she's not here, we need to step up as a society, as a country, as a democracy to monsters like Kristi Noem who don't care about people," he said. He argued Noem's messaging around the enforcement of the Real ID was creating more panic for people who don't need the identification. He reiterated that his office is working to make sure they can serve everyone seeking to get a Real ID.

Blue state governor vows 'resistance' as Trump admin targets sanctuary policies

Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D-Ill., promised President Donald Trump's administration "resistance" on Wednesday following Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem's immigration press conference near the Governor's Mansion in Springfield, Illinois. "Secretary Noem must have not realized she was visiting during Latino Unity Day where we come together to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of our community," Pritzker said in a press release. "Today, Secretary Noem was met by a force stronger than her: the people of Illinois. Illinoisans are sending a clear message to Trump's lackeys that we will not let you mess with us without a resistance." Noem hosted the Illinois press conference "to call out the state's sanctuary policies that undermine the rule of law and endanger fellow Americans," urging Pritzker and his fellow Illinois Democrats to "abandon these dangerous sanctuary policies" and "return to law and order." Noem was joined by two "Angel Families," who had family members killed by illegal immigrants in Illinois. DEM GOVERNOR BLASTS TRUMP, MUSK IN NEW ATTACK CAMPAIGN AS 2028 BUZZ GROWS Fox News reported at least two dozen protesters were shouting and holding up signs during Noem's press conference. Before the press conference began, the location was changed to the site where a woman was allegedly killed by a noncitizen. "Unlike Donald Trump and Kristi Noem, Illinois follows the law," Pritzker fired back after Noem's press conference. POTENTIAL 2028 HOPEFUL ACCUSED OF 'INCITING VIOLENCE' AFTER CALL FOR 'MASS PROTESTS' AGAINST TRUMP While Noem raged against Pritzker's policies, the Illinois governor and potential 2028 presidential contender, who has stood out among the Democratic Party as a vocal opponent to Trump's second term, accused the Trump administration of violating due process with their illegal immigration crackdown. "The Trump administration is violating the United States Constitution, denying people due process, and disappearing law-abiding neighbors, including children who are U.S. citizens. Yet, they are taking no real action to promote public safety and deport violent criminals within the clear and defined legal process," Priztker said. Pritzker continued his streak of speaking out against the Trump administration as their latest contention found its way to his backyard on Wednesday. "Trump-Noem publicity stunts do not make our communities safer or our immigration system smarter," Pritzker said. Ahead of Noem's visit, Pritzker trolled the Homeland Security secretary in an apparent dig for once killing a dog, as outlined in her book released last year when she was still the governor of South Dakota. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP "We would urge all pet owners in the region to make sure all of your beloved animals are under watchful protection while the Secretary is in the region," Pritzker's office wrote in a statement to reporters. The Department of Homeland Security responded to Pritzker's press release in a statement to Fox News Digital. "What's unlawful and unconstitutional is Governor Pritzker's sanctuary city laws that embolden violent criminal illegal aliens that victimize and kill Americans." Fox News' Olivianna Calmes contributed to this report.
