Clearwater vessel accused of fishing in closed zone
Social Sharing Fisheries officers arrested a person earlier this week in southwest Nova Scotia and seized more than $1 million worth of scallop meat after they say a surveillance operation found a Clearwater vessel fishing in a closed area. According to a release from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the arrest happened Tuesday and followed unauthorized activity in Scallop Fishing Area 29 D by the vessel Atlantic Protector. The area, which is off the coast of Shelburne County near Clark's Harbour, is known for its premium quality scallops. "Fishery officers from our Barrington detachment first detected the fishing vessel via the Vessel Monitoring System," the release said. "The offshore surveillance unit was then dispatched and visually confirmed the vessel was fishing illegally in the closed area." According to the release, fisheries officers boarded the vessel at sea and seized the catch. Scallops that had not been shucked were returned live to the ocean. The captain was directed to take the vessel to Shelburne, where the rest of the catch was offloaded. Company says it is committed to sustainable, legal fishing DFO said officers seized almost 50,000 pounds [22,000 kilograms] of scallop meat, worth about $1.1 million. A statement from Clearwater said the company is committed to sustainable fishing and "legal operations at all times." The statement says Atlantic Protector's captain was accused of being "just over the boundary for a short period of time earlier that day." Atlantic Protector is licensed to fish for scallops outside 12 nautical miles [22.2 kilometres] on German Bank. The 43-metre factory vessel has the capability to shuck and freeze-dry scallops within an hour of being caught, according to Clearwater's website. Clearwater's statement says company officials are conducting their own investigation into the incident. "We employ hundreds of hard-working Atlantic Canadians in this fishery and are confident in the integrity of our captains and crew. We will vigorously defend our record on sustainability and look forward to the opportunity to bring evidence forward to defend ourselves." DFO says its investigation continues.

The Bear – Season 4 Episode 3 'Scallop' Recap & Review
Scallop Episode 3 of The Bear season 4 begins with Sydney working on the scallop dish whose recipe she simplified in the previous episode. Carmy tastes it and tells her it's perfect. Meanwhile, Ritchie's ex-wife Tiff is getting married. They're on the phone when Tiff asks if he's coming to the wedding and he quickly gets off the phone. At The Bear, Ebra meets with Albert Schnurr, a consultant. He agrees to mentor Ebra over a period of three weeks. He is surprised to learn how well the sandwich window is doing. Richie learns from his staff that one of their guests is a VIP family. The daughter is a cancer survivor and they want the Italian beef sandwich but at night. She also wanted to experience snow and Ritchie finds a cheap, affordable way to make it happen. Sydney's dad, who hasn't been able to reach her, leaves her a voicemail. Marcus, too, gets a voicemail from his father who wants to meet him. He catches Carmy almost lighting a cigarette and tells him to stop. He then asks Carmy for more firepower with desserts. Meanwhile, Donna Berzatto helps Cicero put his house on the market. I guess, financially, things really are that bad. Once the doors open, the kitchen jumps into motion. Richie gives the VIP family their beef sandwich in a warm, theatrical manner which seems to impress a guest sitting nearby. Richie checks in with the guest, who praises the scallop and asks for the beef himself. Then it's time for the snow show, which turns out to be a huge success. The daughter is ectstatic and the guest from earlier, a Mr Clark, sees the family enjoying as he leaves. That night, Carmy is heading home when he suddenly gets off the train he boarded and starts running. He runs all the way to Claire's house and asks to speak with her for a few minutes. He admits that he loved her but he didn't know how to deal with those good feelings. He apologises and she accepts it, admitting that she thought they could be more. She then offers a quick goodbye and leaves. As he's walking away, Carmy calls Pete and says he needs to change something in the agreement. The Episode Review Episode 3 starts with a gorgeous scene in which Sydney cooks her scallop dish. It's got some beautiful lighting which shifts through the colours as we get a montage of her cooking, all set to a dreamy song. The focus then shifts to Carmy, who praises the dish and calls it perfect. Once again, you get the feeling that Carmy is slowly stepping back from things. On the other hand, whatever Ebra has up his sleeve is quite exciting. Gary is on strong footing now but I wish we got to see more of Marcus. Richie's devotion to making sure the guests have a good time shines through here and as always, Ebon Moss-Bachrach does an endearing job of it. And no prizes for guessing who that mysterious guest is. We do get Donna back though, even if just for a few moments! The final scene has Carmy finally confront Claire, after dragging it out all of last season. This one is a bit conflicting because as heartfelt as Carmy's confession is, his relationship with Claire always felt a bit under developed. Those last few seconds make it clear though, something is changing. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!
