Man driving school van with kids on board in Pittsburgh admits to drinking after fleeing crash, officials say

The driver of a school van in Pittsburgh admitted to drinking after fleeing a crash while transporting juveniles, authorities said. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the driver of the school van crashed into another vehicle on the 16th Street Bridge before fleeing the scene. The vehicle had six juveniles, approximately 10 years old, as passengers, officials said. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the juveniles began contacting their parents to alert them of the situation. Law enforcement tracked the van through the children's phones, and officers with the Mt. Oliver Borough Police located the vehicle and stopped the driver at the intersection of Becks Run Road and Wagner Street. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the driver admitted to officers that he had consumed alcohol. The juveniles were safely returned to family members, and there were no reported injuries. Authorities said the driver is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. He will be charged with driving while intoxicated, Pittsburgh Public Safety added. The driver has not been identified as of Friday night. The investigation continues.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A school van driver has been arrested in Johor Bahru for allegedly molesting two children. Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak said the 58-year-old suspect was arrested at 5.30pm yesterday at his house in Taman Desa Harmoni after a report was lodged by the father of one of the victims, Sinar Harian reported. According to the father, the first alleged incident took place at about 9.30am on April 21, involving an eight-year-old girl who claimed she was molested by the suspect in a school van near a school at Taman Molek. 'The victim informed her father about the incident, but he did not take immediate action as he wanted to give the suspect a chance,' he was quoted as saying. 'However, at about 8am on Monday, the victim's father reportedly witnessed the suspect molesting a seven-year-old boy at Taman Redang, while the school van was parked waiting for other students.' This prompted the father to come forward and file a police report regarding the two incidents, Sohaimi said. He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

JOHOR BARU, May 20 — Police arrested a 42-year-old male school van driver for allegedly molesting two primary school students in Permas Jaya here. The man is suspected of repeatedly molesting the students, sisters aged eight and nine, usually before dropping them off at their school in Permas Jaya, said Johor Baru South police chief ACP Raub Selamat. The victims' mother reported the matter to the Johor Baru South district police headquarters at 11.15am yesterday. 'Following the report, police managed to track down and arrest the suspect at his home in Plentong here at 9.50pm last night,' he told reporters when met at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today. The sisters were brought to the Hospital Sultanah Aminah for a medical examination and no physical injuries were reported. Police have initiated investigations for sexual assault of children under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Earlier, senior assistant registrar Muhammad Fitri Mokhtar granted the police a one-week remand order against the suspect at the Magistrate's Court here.
