We Can Save The World!!! marks Cheng's debut feature film, following his web series Average Guys and Neighbourhood Watch Task Force. In a press release, Cheng describes the film as a love letter to Singapore and to anyone who has felt stuck in life. 'As young filmmakers in Singapore, we're often given a healthy dose of pessimism, told not to expect too much, to stay within safe lanes, to follow received wisdom. But we made this film anyway, against the odds,' Cheng shared. 'I hope Singaporeans will see themselves in this movie – to laugh, to cry, and to remember that our messy, weird, ridiculous lives are worth putting on the big screen.' Now in its 24th edition, NYAFF is North America's leading showcase of Asian cinema. Cheng, together with cast members Fauzi Azzhar and Xuan Ong, will introduce the film at the festival on Jul 17, followed by a question-and-answer segment.

Robert Pattinson's ‘Mickey 17' Arrives On Streaming On Max This Week
Mickey 17 — Parasite director Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi comedy starring Robert Pattinson— is coming to streaming this week on Max. Find out when you can watch the film on the digital platform. Mickey 17 was released in theaters on March 7 and debuted on digital streaming on April 8. The logline for Mickey 17 reads, 'The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job … to die, for a living." In the film, which is set in 2054, Pattinson's Mickey is a failed businessman who enlists as an 'expendable' in a space colonization mission where, if he dies, another version of himself, memories intact, is cloned and printed up. But when the 17th version of Mickey is thought to be dead and re-emerges, he discovers that a new clone, Mickey 18, has been printed to take his place. Suddenly, both Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 are not only at odds with one-another, but are in danger because the colony's leader, Kenneth (Mark Ruffalo), has a strict rule forbidding 'Multiples' of clones because of an earlier mishap. Rated R, Mickey 17 also stars Naomie Ackie, Steven Yeun and Toni Collette. Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced that Mickey 17 would begin streaming on Max on Friday, May 23. In addition, Mickey 17 will debut on HBO linear on Saturday, May 24, at 7:40 p.m. ET. Max, which will revert to its previous name, HBO Max, this summer, has three subscription packages available. Viewers can get programming with ads for $9.99 per month or ad-free for $16.99 per month. An ad-free package with 4K Ultra HD programming is also available for $20.99 per month. While Mickey Barnes is cloned with memories intact several times over in Mickey 17, a plot development that unfolds during the film separates Mickey 18 from his previous iterations. As such, the Mickey 17 gave Robert Pattinson the opportunity to essentially play two different characters, even if they looked and sounded exactly the same. "Mickey 17 is someone who has the lowest expectations of his life, and yet the world keeps pushing those expectations, to the point where he has a job that tortures him every day," Pattinson told the crowd at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April of 2024 (via Entertainment Weekly), following the debut of the film's trailer. "And then 18 comes along, and he's got frontal lobe damage and no self-control, libido out of control. It's like playing an evil brother or twin." While in theaters, Mickey 17 earned $46 million domestically and $80.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $126.7 million against a $118 million budget before prints and advertising, per The Numbers. Mickey 17 earned a 77% 'fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 332 reviews, as well as a 73% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 2,500-plus verified user ratings. Mickey 17 arrives on streaming on Max on Friday and debuts on HBO linear on Saturday at 7:40 p.m. ET.
