‘Resident Alien' Stars on Their Show's Cancellation, TV Industry ‘Disarray' and a ‘Plausible' Movie Continuation: ‘You Guys Deserve More'

The 'Resident Alien' cast took a final bow at their first, and now last, San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel, the morning after news broke that their show was canceled. The panel was one of the first on Friday morning and came after USA Network canceled 'Resident Alien' Thursday evening. Showrunner Chris Sheridan and stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds and Alice Wetterlund all touched on the cancellation and reflected on the four seasons of the sci-fi dramedy. It has three episodes left to air, with the series finale bowing in two weeks. 'I couldn't be more proud of what we've done in this season. I can't wait for you to see it.' He added that he had a feeling that Season 4 would be the last for 'Resident Alien' when they started writing and shooting the current season last year. 'I told the cast that I believed this was the last season, and so we should really appreciate it,' he said. 'As we were shooting, there was an awareness that this was probably it. I know I approached it differently, and I appreciated things in a different way. These were big moments and saying goodbye, not only to each other, but also to the work we did.' Wetterlund sounded off on the 'disarray' of the TV industry on stage and told the packed crowd of Comic-Con fans that they 'deserve more' of their show. 'We know that you guys deserve more than you're getting on a lot of shows and movies. The industry is in disarray and it's been disrupted,' she said. 'Thanks, tech. In a world where TV were normal, we could have way more. The only reason that's not true is not because anybody behind the show doesn't want it. It's because the way the industry works now. You guys deserve more of this.' Sheridan said a movie continuation of the show seems 'plausible' in the future, but doesn't have any plans for it right now 'There won't be another season of this show right now. I do hope for a movie down the road. I think that's a plausible thing and that USA does do,' he said. 'No time soon. It's not like I have ideas, but I think that's something that could happen. I don't know about another season, but the industry is always changing. Who knows?' The cast joked about doing a 'Resident Alien Versus Predator' spinoff. On a lighter note, Tomko said 'I'm going to miss the beautiful routine and consistency. As an actor you don't get that a lot in our business. It's our version of a nine-to-five — that comfort you get when you walk in and everybody knows your name.' Tudyk stars in 'Resident Alien' as an extra-terrestrial that has crash landed on Earth with a mission to destroy humanity. However, after stealing a local physician's identity, he begins appreciating and befriending regular humans. The cast also includes Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn and Meredith Garretson. 'Resident Alien' airs Fridays on USA, with new episodes available to stream on Peacock a week later. The series finale is slated for Aug. 8.
