Some Bad News About ‘The Boys' Season 5 Release Date

The Boys If you were hoping that you'd be able to watch the series finale of The Boys any time soon, prepare to be disappointed. Only just now has Amazon announced that The Boys season 5 has ended filming. Good news, right? Yes and no, as the post-production time this series has from now until release indicates a very, very long wait. Using season 4 as the last test, that season of The Boys wrapped filming on April 12, 2024. Season 4 of the show was not released until June 13, 2024. That's another full 14 months of production. So, taking today's July 2025 filming wrap date and going another 14 months past that, we arrive in September 2026, meaning it will be two years and three months between season 4 and season 5, which I believe is longer than the industry average, even in this era filled with huge seasonal gaps. In the interim, however, we will have the second season of Gen V, the college-based spin-off of The Boys, which will arrive in September 2025 as a stopgap until September 2026's The Boys season 5 release. I would argue that Gen V is actually a better show than The Boys at this point, but that's neither here nor there. The Boys We also still have two confirmed spin-offs in the works, the prequel Vought Rising series and the upcoming The Boys: Mexico, which still seem to be happening. Or at least we haven't heard that either is cancelled yet. Both would likely not air until after The Boys season 5 ends the mainline series, and then we enter The Walking Dead territory where the IP lives on through a series of spin-offs. This is something that Netflix is doing with increasing regularity with its big series. Reacher gaps are now being filled by its upcoming spin-off, Neagley, about his long-term friend and partner. We have learned that the popular Terminal List will not return for season 2 any time soon but will instead get the one-off prequel show, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, starring Taylor Kitsch's character that will arrive in August. We still don't have an exact date for season 2 of the main Terminal List series with Chris Pratt. I'm not wild about waiting another 14 months from today to watch the series finale of The Boys. Actually, it will be two months after that, given that Amazon does not do binge releases for the most part. But this is how streaming works now, like it or not. First Look at ‘Sweet Magnolias' Season 5 Just Dropped & the Internet Is Having Mixed Reactions

Two months after Sweet Magnolias was officially renewed for season five, production is officially underway—and this time, it's happening in none other than New York City. Yep, Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) have traded Serenity, South Carolina, for the Big Apple (at least for now) and thanks to eagle-eyed fans and passersby, there's already plenty of behind-the-scenes footage floating around social media. TVLine also dropped a few photos of the trio filming in Grand Central Terminal and let's just say the internet has thoughts. As fans might remember, Maddie recently accepted an irresistible marketing role at a publishing house in NYC—so it tracks that the ladies would take a little trip up north. But not everyone is thrilled about the change in scenery. Some fans were all in on the vibe shift, flooding the comments with excitement. 'My favorite show in my favorite city!!!' and 'I am here for it!!!!! Holy exciting!!!!!' were just a few of the reactions. Others, however, weren't quite as hyped. 'Why NYC?!? I feel it's going to change,' one person wrote. Another added, 'Booooo! No! Maddie moving to NYC was the worst idea! Tyler finally found his people and was happy. Serenity is basically a character in the show. I hope they fix this in the upcoming season.' A third chimed in with, 'I can't say I'm happy about this. Why do shows always stray so far from the original premises that people loved?' Courtesy of Netflix According to TVLine, the NYC scenes are part of a girls' trip—so no, the Sweet Magnolias haven't officially left Serenity behind. There's no release date for season five just yet, but one thing's for sure: fans will definitely be tuning in to get answers after those season four cliffhangers. An Unfortunate Update On The Distant ‘The Boys' Season 5 Release Date

The Boys The Boys only has one more season left to go, and according to social media, it appears filming has now wrapped for season 5. That's good news on its own, I suppose, but in the context of when season 5's release date will actually arrive, that's a different matter entirely. We can use season 4 to judge the distance between filming wrapping on a season and its release. In that case, filming on The Boys season 4 ended on April 12, 2023. Then, the season aired on June 13, 2024, meaning that post-production took 14 months after filming until season 4 actually aired. Doing that math, 14 months from today would be August 2026. That would be over two years since season 4 aired, yet another giant gap in the streaming era, though I guess these days we have to be thankful when things aren't three years, sadly. However, the benefit of giving your shows spin-off series is that you have something to fill the time. In this case, that would be the release of Gen V season 2, which will air on September 17, 2025. Given that I liked Gen V season 1 better than recent entries of The Boys, I'm genuinely looking forward to that. I'm not clear on what the status of another spin-off, The Boys: Mexico, currently is or when it's going to change its name from that. There's one more past that, Vought Rising, a prequel series. Amazon is not letting this go just because the main series ends, Walking Dead style. But at least Gen V has been no Fear the Walking Dead to start with here. The Boys The Boys has gotten additional attention as of late after the election of Donald Trump for a second term. While The Boys has always been a political parody, it's gotten more pronounced the last few years with some literal 1:1 moments from real life. Social media for the show reacts quickly to real events for promotion (most recently, The Deep was used for a DOGE/Elon Musk parody). Homelander's Antony Starr has recently commented that he's glad the series is ending as he doesn't want the series to not go out on top: While it does seem extremely likely Homelander will not survive the finale, it remains to be seen whether he could possibly show up in a spin-off if events are taking place in the past. But unfortunately, we are going to need to wait more than a year until we figure out how season 5 will end. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Some Bad News About Outer Banks' Season 5 Release Date

Outer Banks Netflix has proudly declared that the fifth and final season of Outer Banks has begun production, with a new set photo of the group in costume minus (spoilers) JJ, who was killed off in season 4, barring some sort of miraculous resurrection. So, good news, right? Well, not if you were hoping this meant that Outer Banks season 5 would arrive any time soon. While it's great that production is starting now, this is a wild nine months after airing of season 4, and with how long it takes to actually film and produce a show like this, that's bad news for its overall release date timeline. Outer Banks season 4 started production in June 2023 and was released in October 2024. That's a gap of 15 months for filming and post-production, lengthy even in this current streaming era. So, if we're talking 15 months from July 2025, if we're rounding up, that's a season 5 debut in October 2026, a full two years after season 4. This would be longer than any gap between seasons the show has had so far. It's not clear whether or not the final season will be broken up into two halves of five episodes as we saw with season 4. But it's likely, given Netflix's addiction to doing this. It's just yet another example of how exhausting these gaps between seasons are in the modern streaming era. There's a new piece from whats-on-netflix that articulates this well in terms of data, showing that the average time between Netflix seasons is 20 months. And that very much hurts these shows: The reasons? More elaborate, expensive shows, but also lengthy post-production, which involves dubbing the show in dozens of different languages given its global reach (this is true for most streaming services, but Netflix especially). It also has to do with actor availability, and in the case of Outer Banks, really all these main actors have been hopping around different projects during these gaps because production takes this long. But doing so can make production take even longer in some cases. Could this change? Now that COVID and strikes are over, it's possible, but we've only seen year-long breaks between a handful of major streaming shows, with only a few points of good news like yearly installments of 15-episode The Pitt, a unicorn. Outer Banks? Not a unicorn. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
