Nutritionist Issues Warning of Overeating This Popular Summer Fruit
Fruits have plenty of health benefits that make them an attractive option to consume on a daily basis.
Among the many fruits, strawberries are very common and can be purchased year-round, although the peak season for them is from April to June.
Strawberries have plenty of health benefits, which include being packed with vitamins, fiber, antioxidants, calcium, iron, potassium, folate and magnesium, according to WebMD. They are also one of the top 20 high-antioxidant fruits, so this popular summer treat is one with plenty of positives to it.
Strawberries are also known to help boost your memory while being a perfect low-calorie snack option.
But Nutritionist Lauren Manaker warned that eating too many strawberries could have a negative effect, according to Amanda Mactas of Delish.
"Overeating strawberries could lead to digestive discomfort, like bloating or diarrhea, due to their fiber content," Manaker said. "Although strawberries are relatively low in sugar compared to other fruits, eating large quantities could still impact blood sugar levels, especially for people with diabetes."
Of course, eating too much of anything is not always beneficial, and strawberries are no exception, even with the positive effects.
"Some people are sensitive to strawberries and may experience mild allergic symptoms like itching or swelling, which could worsen with overconsumption," Manaker added.
