3 dead, dozens injured in train crash in southern Germany
Three people have died in the train accident in southwestern Germany , a police spokesman said at the scene of the accident on Sunday evening. At least 34 people were injured in the train accident, security sources said. An earlier statement mentioned that several passengers were critically injured. Early on Sunday evening, at least two carriages of a regional train partially derailed near Riedlingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The train was on its way from the town of Sigmaringen to the city of Ulm, both also located in the same state. There had been a storm in the region earlier. Whether the accident is related to this is not yet known. A possible connection is being examined, said a spokeswoman for the Ulm police headquarters. Photos showed broken branches and an axle of the train apparently torn off in the accident and lying a few metres away at the edge of the track bed.
