Woman killed and nine injured in M4 crash near Swindon

A woman has died after a motorway crash which left nine others injured. Police are appealing for witnesses following the major crash on the M4 between junctions 16 and 17 shortly before 23:30 BST on Sunday. A woman in her 40s died at the scene, while another woman in her 70s sustained serious injuries. Five people in the same car suffered minor injuries, as did three people travelling in the second car, with all involved taken to hospital. The M4 westbound remains closed between Swindon and Chippenham for investigation work by Wiltshire Police's serious collision team. The road is likely to remain shut for the rest of the day. Police said they had received reports that a white vehicle may have been involved and left the scene. Any witnesses have been urged to come forward to police, as well as those with any relevant dashcam footage of the incident.

A woman has died and a man has been arrested after a car was reported to have crashed into a Police said the single-vehicle collision happened on the A1159 Royal Artillery Way in Southend-on-Sea, just before 23:30 BST on Tuesday.A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition and later died, the force said.A 43-year-old man from Shoeburyness was arrested at the scene and was being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, possession of Class A drugs and driving without a valid licence or insurance. Essex Police said an investigation was being led by its serious collision investigation have appealed for anyone with information or relevant footage to get in touch as soon as possible.
