Southend car crash kills woman and man is arrested

A woman has died and a man has been arrested after a car was reported to have crashed into a tree.Essex Police said the single-vehicle collision happened on the A1159 Royal Artillery Way in Southend-on-Sea, just before 23:30 BST on Tuesday.A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition and later died, the force said.A 43-year-old man from Shoeburyness was arrested at the scene and was being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, possession of Class A drugs and driving without a valid licence or insurance.
Essex Police said an investigation was being led by its serious collision investigation unit.Officers have appealed for anyone with information or relevant footage to get in touch as soon as possible.

Officers are continuing to search for five suspected hand grenades found in a Worcestershire canal by a magnet Mercia Police said a man found a total of seven devices in the canal on Lea End Lane in Hopwood on Friday, but left the area with five of them, leaving two on the force is appealing for the man who found the grenades to come forward so they can be "safely recovered".Richard Field, districts inspector for Redditch and Bromsgrove, said it was worrying as the grenades were described as being "quite volatile" and could pose a risk to the public.
