Colts QB Anthony Richardson reportedly recovered from shoulder setback

Anthony Richardson Sr.'s shoulder issues appear to be behind him, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder. The Indianapolis Colts quarterback is "believed" to have recovered from the right shoulder soreness that sidelined him during the team's minicamp in June. He is expected to be ready to go when the team opens up training camp next week. Last month, Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, said that the shoulder setback was "not really even a bump in the road" and that he was "all good." Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that Richardson met with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache for a second opinion and ElAttrache agreed with the initial prognosis that the Colts quarterback did not require another procedure. ElAttrache performed Richardson's 2023 surgery on the AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, which limited him to just four games in his rookie season. He recommended rest and rehabilitation for the injury. Richardson could be limited early in camp as he builds up strength in his throwing shoulder, something the Colts' medical staff will be monitoring closely. Health will be important for Richardson going forward. Daniel Jones was signed in the offseason and Steichen said that it will be an "open competition" for the QB1 job this season. Richardson will have to stay on the field and show consistency in his play and that he can improve on his 50.6% career completion percentage. The Colts finished 8-9 last season and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham undergoes shoulder surgery after months of playing strapped up, with midfielder set to miss start of season

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has undergone a successful surgery on his shoulder and is expected to miss the start of the upcoming season. Bellingham had been suffering with a shoulder problem since falling awkwardly and dislocating it during a LaLiga match against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023. He delayed going under the knife and was forced to play with his shoulder heavily strapped to prevent extra injury - and told reporters last month that he was 'tired of playing with the sling'. The club said in a brief statement that Bellingham needed surgery 'to address recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder.' The procedure was 'successful,' it added. 'Bellingham will now undergo a period of rehabilitation, prior to returning to training and starting his recovery,' the club's statement said. Madrid did not say for how long Bellingham will be sidelined, but Spanish media reported he could be out two to three months. Madrid opens its La Liga campaign on Aug. 19 against Osasuna. He is also expected to miss some Champions League games and likely England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September. Bellingham played at the Club World Cup in finishing his second season with Madrid after joining from Borussia Dortmund. The former Birmingham midfielder netted 15 goals in 58 appearances last season, as Madrid missed out on the league title to Barcelona and were eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Arsenal.
