Sarah Michelle Gellar's husband Freddie Prinze Jr addresses rumoured feud between his wife and I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt

Freddie Prinze Jr has shut down claims that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt have fallen out. The actor, 49, spoke out following allegations that the original I Know What You Did Last Summer stars were on bad terms after they failed to be photographed together at the reboot's premiere on Thursday. Both he and Jennifer, 46, reprise their roles from the 1997 slasher film with brief cameos in its long-awaited reboot. Freddie explained that the actors have simply failed to keep in touch over the years but had a chance to briefly catch up on set. He told Variety: 'We run in different circles. I hadn't seen her since we wrapped the second movie in '98, but we care a lot about these characters, and it was all still there. 'After we finished that first scene, we had a chance to say, "Oh, you have kids. And you have kids."' Sarah's husband spoke out following allegations that the original I Know What You Did Last Summer stars were on bad terms after their failure to be photographed together at the reboot's premiere on Thursday Praising the new film, which is the fourth installment in the franchise, Freddie said he is particularly proud of the new insight it gives fans into their characters. He added: 'Honestly, I think the first scene we share in this movie, where Ray and Julie confront the reality of their relationship, is the best work we've done. 'I'm really proud of it. Our director, Jenn Robinson, three-dimensionalized these characters.' Jennifer has also addressed the rumours that she and Sarah, 48, are on bad terms. In a recent interview with Vulture, she said: 'I honestly don't even know what that was or how that all came to be. 'I just think people don't want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?' she queried. She then admitted that she has not seen Gellar in 28 years. 'I haven't seen Sarah,' the 9-1-1 star said. 'Literally, we've not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That's why it's so funny to me.' Jennifer said people in her circle had encouraged her to enter the fray, but 'I'm like, "What am I going to say? I've not seen her."' The actress, 46, has reprised her role as an older and wiser Julie James in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, which opened in cinemas on Friday. The franchise famously centres around incidents following groups of friends who try to cover up bloody incidents from the previous summer. Fans also thought it was weird that Jennifer shared the trailer from the new fright flick on social media and didn't mention her former co-star. Jennifer said all is fine, however, between her and Sarah. 'On my side, we're good. I have no idea where this is coming from,' she asserted.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' Review: Oops . . . They Did It Again

Millennials adore the 1997 slasher film 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' just as they do 'Hocus Pocus' and 'Space Jam.' The taste of millennials is hereby called into question. Based on a 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, it was written by Kevin Williamson, also the writer of 'Scream' and the creator of 'Dawson's Creek,' whose pop-culture-drenched characters, especially his swaggeringly insolent women, and steady stream of teasing references to genre conventions made him one of the defining voices of Gen X. 'Last Summer' starred a Mount Rushmore of 1990s teen idols: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe.

Truth about Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt's 'feud' as stars avoid each other on red carpet

Sarah Michelle Gellar has broken her silence after fans noticed that she didn't see former co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt at the I Know What You Did Last Summer movie premiere this week. Gellar, 48, and Hewitt, 46, both appeared in the original 1997 slasher film, but only Hewitt returned for the 2025 reboot. The pair both attended the Los Angeles premiere of the movie on Monday, but noticeably didn't pose for a photo together. Fans then noticed that Gellar didn't mention or include Hewitt in an Instagram post about the premiere, even though she went out of her way to thank the film's writers and director. 'I love you, but where's Jennifer?' commented one distraught fan. Another wrote, 'I love you so dearly, but it makes me so sad there is ZERO recognition for Jennifer Lover Hewitt either.' Clearing up the speculation, Gellar insisted that there was no bad blood between herself and Hewitt. She went on to say that the pair had simply missed each other on the red carpet and that Hewitt was a no show at the official after party. 'For everyone asking - I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,' she explained. 'I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn't come to the after party,' she continued. 'If you have ever been to one of these it's crazy. I sadly didn't get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn't change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.' Fans seemed satisfied with the explanation, with one responding, 'Thanks for clearing that up queen, was making me a little sad because I love you both so much!' Another commented, 'No need to explain. Some people just love to feed into false drama.' In December, Gellar sparked feud rumors with Hewitt thanks to an awkward interview that went viral. Clearing up the rumors, Gellar insisted that there was no bad blood between herself and Hewitt At the time, Gellar was asked about the possibility of Hewitt being in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer film during a red carpet interview with Extra. In response to the question, a clearly frustrated Sarah paused and said, 'I have nothing to do with that,' before ending the interview by smiling and walking off. Both Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprised their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson for the I Know What You Did Last Summer remake. The new film focuses on a new group of teenagers (Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon), who are taunted by a vicious stalker who somehow knows a deadly secret from their past. They ultimately get advice from two survivors of the 1997 Southport Massacre - Julie and Ray - though it seems director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) tried to bring another original cast member back: Sarah Michelle Gellar. Gellar, 48, played Helen Shivers in the original, though she has consistently said she will not be in this project, despite being good friends with Robinson, starring in her 2022 film Do Revenge, and being married to Prinze Jr. since 2002. The reason is a simple one: Helen Shivers was killed in the first film, but, as Robinson told Entertainment Weekly, that didn't stop her from trying. 'I tried, okay? I harassed her! But she is dead. I tried to pitch some crazy s**t too,' Robinson joked. 'I was like, "What if it's like you weren't dead and you're actually alive, but in hiding?"' the director recalled. 'And Sarah's like, "I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body,"' Robinson recalled. 'I was like, "Yeah, but what if?" And she said, "I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar,"' Robinson joked. A photo of her Helen character is seen at the trailer resting on her gravestone, though it seems that will be all fans will see of that character.

Killer New Trailer for the Revival of I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER — GeekTyrant

Sony Pictures has released a second trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer , the revival of the classic 1990s slasher film horror franchise, and it gives us a better look at what's in store and more details on the new story that it will tell. This is basically a rehash of the original movie but with a whole new group of characters. But maybe they will throw a twist or two in the story, which also sees the return of franchise stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. as they find themselves dealing with this killer nightmare all over again. In the film, 'When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. 'A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they're forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. 'As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.' It's basiically the same story with a new young group of characters who are being killed off. So, if you liked the original movie and the formula it followed, then you'll probably enjoy this revival film. It looks like silly horror movie fun. The movie comes from write and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and it also stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers , Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez. Sony Pictures will release the movie in theaters on July 18th, 2025.
