👶 These 10 newborn must-haves for baby will save your sanity
Skip the baby registry fluff—these are the items that actually make those sleepless nights bearable It was hard to narrow down my list of essentials to 10, but I wanted to cover the things that made my life infinitely easier in the first three months of my now toddler, Reid's, life. I started from a place of not knowing ONE THING about what to have on hand for babies, so it was very much… on-the-job training. Here are the 10 things that were absolutely vital months 0-3. Keekaroo Peanut Changer. This is yet another reason I'm glad I didn't have children in my 20s — or even my 30s. Fabric changing pad covers are for the birds! They're like a shag rug in a bathroom — a tall glass of no. The amount of times that thing would have to be washed? Absolutely the Keekaroo has molded sides to keep baby safe and stationary, while being WIPEABLE. I received one as a handmedown from my dear friend Annie and even purchased a second secondhand one for $50 on Mercari for upstairs after trying to live with a knockoff. They're also super cushiony, so Reid doesn't get plunked down when he's being changed. It doesn't hurt his head and is as cozy as a changing pad can be. Love. I'd buy it for any new mom for a shower. Baby Brezza Formula Pro. This is beyond a game changer. Using those little scoops and measuring and warming bottles? That's for people who didn't have a two-week maternity leave maybe, but it definitely was not for me. This little Nespresso-esque machine makes a perfect little bottle 'latte' for your baby in seconds and you can customize the size and temperature of each bottle. I was convinced by my friend Melissa, who said to me, and I quote: 'Amber, I am so serious. You have to get it. Let's put it this way, I would've paid $5000 for it.' She was 100% correct. We wound up inheriting a second one from a friend whose children are a little older and we keep that one upstairs in our bedroom. WE USED BOTH thing to note: Just go ahead and buy one or two extra filters. It's worth it, as you need to clean them after every fourth bottle, which feels like it's every two minutes. The cost per use of this machine is minimal and you can always sell yours on Facebook Marketplace once your baby is weaned. Or you can buy one there to begin with! Just make sure to use the right setting depending on your formula. The Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor. Okay, I actually received this from a wonderful publicist I know (j'adore you, Melissa!) before I was even assigned a story on the best baby monitors. There are other great ones on the market, and I'm still testing a couple (stay tuned for my thoughts), but this one is my favorite. The Nanit has a nightlight, you can subscribe for your full video history, there are helpful age-related tips for your baby, plus it gives you a little digest every morning of how the previous night went — no matter how depressing that may be. For instance, for most of months three and four of Reid's life, it would say something like Reid was in bed for nine hours and you interacted with him seven times. SEVEN. Teething. It's the worst. But the Nanit is incredible. I also love that it comes with a stand, so I didn't have to perch anything precariously near Reid's bassinet. Double-Zip Footie Onesies. Reid received lots of beautiful clothes as gifts and he also inherited a bunch from other mom friends and a SLEW of items from a friend of my sister in law with a baby about a year older than him. 97% of the time, I put him in zip-up onesies. Fussing with pants, socks and a separate top? It's a no from me, dog. Even a onesie with too many snaps becomes exhausting in the middle of the night. For nighttime, it's all about the double zip, or at least the single zip. At one point? I went magnet. Those are also phenomenal. My favorites double-zip footie onesies are from Carter's and Little Sleepies. Weleda Calendula Diaper Cream. Though it's thankfully been fleeting, nothing took care of Reid's diaper rash faster than this stuff. I use this spatula to apply it directly to the diaper. It's better than anything else I've tried. Frida Grow With Me Baby Bath. I am the dream Frida Baby consumer. I will buy pretty much everything this brand churns out — and I have yet to be disappointed. This bath was on my registry and a friend purchased it when Reid was born and it's fantastic. It'll be useful until he's two. We put it in our kitchen sink and it keeps him propped up while we bathe him. I always put a baby washcloth on his chest to keep him warm throughout the bath and am loving Mustela and Tubby Todd baby washes these days. Momcozy Wearable Pumps. I breastfed Reid and gave him formula (about 50/50) and I can tell you right now if I had to use the Spectra pump I got in the hospital, which I used exactly one time, that would have been it for breastfeeding. There are some perks to being a new old mom, and one of them is that wearable pumps didn't even exist until a few years ago. My nursing career would have been over within weeks if I hadn't discovered this easy-to-use wearable pump. I've tried a few, and while I also like the Willow for different reasons (I use both), the Momcozy has fewer parts to wash and that's a win for me. It also just works really well and gives me several sessions on a single charge. I wore these things everywhere. My goal was to breastfeed for at least six months and this helped me achieve that. Philips Avent Plastic Bottles. This is an item chosen by Reid! Babies have preferences when it comes to bottles and pacifiers. I got the Babylist bottle, diaper and pacifier samplers and it turns out, he likes Philips Avent the most. I can't deal with glass, so we do plastic. I like that they're squat, so they hold much more liquid than you'd think. I know everyone loves Dr. Brown's, but it simply wasn't Reid's choice. Like his mom, the boy likes what he likes. The Snoo. I purchased my Snoo via a Facebook moms group in a friend's hometown in New Jersey for about 60% of the price and I've been thrilled with it. My son wasn't a great sleeper overall but we'd have had no chance without the Snoo. First of all, the white noise is my absolute favorite and I'm a white noise connoiseur. I love it so much, I purchased a Snoobie for my own personal ADULT use after we moved Reid's Snoo to the room just outside of our bedroom. I missed rain on the roof, what can I say. I love that The Snoo responds to crying with more white noise and it sways your baby gently, mimicking what goes on in the womb. But if you want a one and done item that will work from birth until your baby is 33 pounds, it's all about the Cradlewise. I actually wish we'd gotten that because we'd have the rocking of the Snoo we loved far beyond the first six months. But we already had a crib we'd gotten from a friend so I didn't think it was necessary. Spoiler, it was. Just make sure to get the Cradlewise at least six months in advance. Cuddle Barn Mother Goose Animated Stuffed Animal. This adorable goose was a gift to Reid from my mom's friend Carolyn — and he loves it to the point where I've changed the batteries six times already and purchased two other talking Cuddle Barn animals — one singing giraffe and one llama reading a book. He loves them all but Mother Goose is his favorite. Like the American Express commercials of yore, we won't leave home without it. MG still comes in Reid's luggage wherever we go.

‘It's unhinged', say shoppers about hot weather buy that guarantees a good night's sleep and only costs £5
SHOPPERS are raving about a hot weather buy that guarantees a good night's sleep and costs as little as £5 on the high street. With temperatures set to hit a scorching 32C this weekend, many Brits will be desperately looking for clever ways to cool down. 2 Some shoppers have revealed an "unhinged" hot weather hack they've found to get through the sticky, sleepless nights, with many hailing it a "lifesaver". Pet cooling mats can be found at many high street stores in the UK, and while they are intended to be used for cats and dogs, some people have been buying the gadgets for themselves. Commenting on a TikTok video calling for people to share their "unhinged tips on how to stay cool" during hot spells, one social media user wrote: "Borrowed my cat's gel cooling mat as she's uninterested in it and it's a lifesaver. "I'm considering getting a Labrador-sized one for more coverage." Another replied saying: "I did exactly that, it's amazing." The cooling mats can be found at many UK retailers, including Sainsbury's and B&Q, and cost as little as £5 for a small size. Unlike some other hot weather buys available right now, they also cost nothing to run as they require no water or electricity. Shoppers have also shared their tips for getting the most out of the cooling gadget, revealing they sleep with it under their bed sheets at night. Posting to the Aldi Aisle of Shame Community Facebook group, one wrote: "Whoever posted to use the dog cooling mat for yourself under the sheets…thank you!! "This is an amazing discovery! And it works!!!" Six items every UK driver should remove from cars this weekend Another commented: "I bought it and did the same, slept great the past 3 nights!" "I have been using mine for the last 3 summers!" another user wrote. "I put the mat at the bottom of the bed. Cools my legs and stays cool all night!" Some Reddit users have also been posting about the hack, with one posting to the online: "I bought a cooling mat used for dogs for myself. It is great!" They added: "I stumbled upon a cooling mat for dogs online that doesn't require cooling inserts or electricity and thought why not try it out. "It is great! It is not too cold to make you freeze but it cools my body done nicely." Where can I find the gadget? Sainsbury's is currently selling a cooling mat for small dogs for just £5. that provides "instant cooling", according to the retailer. The Weboox Pet Cooling Mat for Small Breeds is cool to the touch and gel based, requiring no water or electricity. It's also wipe clean and water resistant, featuring safe, non-toxic cooling gel. The mat is also available in a medium size for £10. B&Q is also offering a cooling mat for under £6. Its Pets Self Cooling Gel Mat For Cats & Dogs measures 40X50cm and costs £5.95. Morrisons is selling a Furdreams Pet Cooling Mat in medium for £7, which the retailer describes as easy to clean, portable and versatile for home, travel, or outdoor use. Tesco is selling a larger pet cooling mat, which is on sale at £11.47, reduced from £15.29. "COOLER Pet Cooling Mat is an essential accessory for those hot summer days, this cooling mat will help to regulate your pet's temperature and prevent overheating," Tesco says on its website. How to keep cool in hot weather Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS... Keep out of the heat if you can. If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter. Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes. Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? Get in touch by emailing money-sm@

Lidl is selling £11 bedroom essential that'll keep you cool during hot summer nights – and it costs nothing to run
LIDL has launched a summer bedroom essential that could be the answer to sticky, sleepless nights – and it'll only set you back a tenner. If you've spent the last few weeks tossing and turning through the night, it means it might be time to switch out that winter duvet. 2 Luckily, Lidl has just the thing to help you keep your cool. The Livarno Home Double TopCool Duvet has landed in Lidl stores just in time for the heatwave, and it's a total game-changer for sweaty summer nights. Designed to keep you cool and comfy, the ultra-light duvet features a micro-fine cover that cleverly regulates moisture and body temperature. It's ideal for double beds, with a soft and fluffy polyester filling that still feels cosy without the stifling heat. It's also machine washable at 60°C and perfect for spring and summer snoozing. And best of all, unlike noisy fans or pricey air cons, it costs nothing to run. The duvet retails for £10.99 and is only available in Lidl stores. Stock may vary depending on your local branch so it's worth giving them a quick call before making the trip. Price check The £10.99 price tag makes it one of the cheapest cooling duvets on the market right now. On Amazon, a similar 'Cooling Blanket for Night Sweats' also costs £10.99 – but there's a catch. Stop Making This Air Conditioning Mistake: How to Slash Your Summer Energy Bill Delivery will set you back another £6.99, bringing the total to £17.98. John Lewis is selling a Snuggledown Cooling Blanket and Pillowcase set for £18, but again – that's online only, and more expensive. The Fogarty Temperature Regulating Wool All Seasons Duvet, now £56 , down from £70, is ideal for keeping cool during muggy nights. However, it is much more expensive than Lidl's offer. It's always worth comparing prices across stores to make sure you're getting the best value for money. How to compare prices to get the best deal JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal. There are plenty of comparison websites out there that'll check prices for you - so don't be left paying more than you have to. Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers. Here are some that we recommend: Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results. Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock. Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one. CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of. More ways to beat the heat Lidl's duvet isn't the only sizzling summer bargain doing the rounds. Home Bargains is currently selling a Pifco Cordless Neck Fan for just £4.99 – a total steal compared to pricier versions at John Lewis and Dunelm. The fan has been flying off shelves, with one model, the Pifco Hands Free Wearable Fan, already sold out online in both black and white. Parents are loving the Pure Baby Clip-On Stroller Fan, available for £3.49, while Pifco Mini Handheld Fans are going for just 99p. And if you're looking to stock up, you can grab a three-pack of Water Mist Spray Fans for £5.97. Heatwave essentials As the UK braces for temperatures up to 33°C, shoppers are scrambling for ways to stay cool without breaking the bank. Over at B&Q, a fan costing under £50 is getting rave reviews from customers who say it's 'so quiet you can barely hear it' – perfect for light sleepers. Meanwhile, Dunelm is selling a colourful Mini Handheld Fan for just £1.50, and has slashed 20% off its temperature-regulating duvets. With the heat ramping up and cooling products flying off shelves, now's the time to grab a bargain before they're all gone. If you're trying to work out which is the best hand held fan to buy ahead of the anticipated UK heatwave, we've reviewed the products from a range of high street retailers to find our favourite.
