Sobriety checkpoints planned in 2 NE Ohio counties

(WJW) – Sobriety checkpoints will take place in at least two northeast Ohio counties on Friday. According to law enforcement, OVI checkpoints are planned for Summit and Wayne Counties. The Summit County OVI Task Force said in a release that officers will be conducting checkpoints across Summit County on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, into early Saturday morning, Aug. 9, 2025. An exact location and time have not yet been released. I-Team: Search for suspect after 2 East Cleveland officers shot In Wayne County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers will hold a checkpoint on State Route 3 from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday. Officials also warn motorists that they can expect nearby saturation patrols. Cristian Perrin with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a release. 'State Troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.'
