What your summer couples' style says about you
This summer, there's a fun new pastime you might want to take up while strolling around on the weekends. It's unofficially titled summer couple style watch, and involves spotting some distinctive couple camps that are easily identifiable out in the wild – especially when the mercury rises.
Some seem to share a particular sartorial sensibility, beloved hobby, or penchant for baseball caps, while others appear to share entire wardrobes. Whether it's intentional or a gradual merging of minds is harder to identify – but even more fun to guess as an onlooker.
Psychologically speaking, dressing alike is perfectly natural. 'Research shows that long-term partners often converge in attitudes, habits and even appearance,' says fashion psychologist Dr Carolyn Mair. 'Shared routines and mutual influence, known as social contagion, can extend to clothing. Dressing alike can signal and reinforce attachment security and may reflect a desire for cohesion signalling, expressing that they are a single unit through visual synchrony.'
So, who are these camps, how can you spot them and, most intriguingly of all, which one do you associate with most?
