Splash pad in Davis that honors fallen police officer Natalie Corona opens

A splash pad is officially open, honoring fallen Davis police officer Natalie Corona six years after she was killed in the line of duty while responding to a crash in 2019. "She had a joyful spirit, that is the vibe and the energy that we see here today," said Deanne Machado, the parks director for the City of Davis. "So it is a perfect match to honor who she was and her spirit." The project was five years in the making. More than half a million dollars raised through community support brought the project to life. Local artists added personal touches in tilework as each piece was designed with the help of the people who knew Corona best. "There are so many easter egg moments in the tiles that represent stories that her friends, family, and the community know about," Machado said. Corona's best friend, Mariah Diaz, said when the water started flowing, memories flooded her mind. "It felt like that was me and her right there," Diaz said. "It was all meant to be. I truly feel her spirit here with us, she's looking down on us and has the biggest smile on her face." Her friends and colleagues at the Davis Police Department see the splash pad as a fitting tribute to the young officer who wanted to serve this community. "The closure of this project is sort of a symbolic closure of a really big chapter, too, but a joyful one," Machado said. The splash pad, located in Central Park in Davis, is free and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily during the summer.

I found the best summer garden essential that has kept my child entertained for hours in the heat & it only cost £9.99

THE weather has been scorching lately, and if you have been struggling to keep kids entertained, a £9.99 purchase may solve both issues. A mum shared how she picked up a bargain splash pad from TikTok Shop, which her child was obsessed with. Livia, who posts under @livia_tov, uploaded a clip showing how she picked up the inflatable item for under a tenner. The yellow round pad has a wave edge and is decorated by fun aquatic creatures. Describing it as 'absolutely humongous', she said it is perfect for a 'few hours of peace.' In a clip, she shared: 'How brilliant is this sprinkle pad? I love it. Just £9.99.' 'My son is nearly 5 and he's really tall, and this fits a lot. A couple of kids, I would say. Look at how brilliant it is.' All you need to do is inflate the edge, and then attach a hose to the nozzle. When you turn the water on, it squirts water sprinkles around the outside, and you can also create a mini pool in the middle too. She continued: 'And then you've got the splash pad, which is inside there. And look, it's actually quite deep as well, so absolutely amazing. 'If you wanna keep the sprinklers on, or if you just wanna turn them off, it can be used as a paddling pool.' I bought two splash pads from Temu and TikTok shop for £9.99 for my kids to compare - one of them is HUGE for the price She said you can add water toys to make the pool more exciting for kids, but said it is 'honestly so fun'. In the caption, she wrote: 'Amazing for this heatwave, so glad I got this last month. 'We use ours with and without the hose and it's amazing.' 4 People were quick to comment, with one saying they also loved theirs. They wrote: 'My granddaughter loves her, best tenner I've ever spent.' It's not the only water item that is proving to be a big hit this summer. SPLASH SUCCESS 4 A mum has revealed she bought two splash pads from Temu and TikTok shop for her kids to compare, and one was a clear winner. Kassie shared how the Temu pad cost £10 and the TikTok shop one cost £9.99, so they were similar prices to compare. However, they were very different in size. On her @_kassieg account, the mum shared: 'Temu one cost £10, my mum got it and expected it to be bigger and that is what we got. Man charged with attempted kidnap at Victoria Park splash pad, Cardiff

A man has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnap after police were called to a splash pad in a popular park. Officers were called to Victoria Park in Canton, Cardiff, at about 12:00 BST on Thursday after a number of reports raising concerns about a man's behaviour in the splash park area. Some were concerned the man had been taking photographs or recording children at the park, but officers found he was not in possession of such devices after searching him. South Wales Police said the 34-year-old man, of no fixed abode, had also been charged with two public order offences and remanded in custody.

More restrictions put in place at new Massachusetts playground due to "overwhelming demand"

Even more restrictions have been added at the newly opened playground on Trapelo Road in Waltham, Massachusetts due to what the city describes as "overwhelming demand." The playground features a wide range of activities, including a splash pad and mini golf. Social media has fueled the popularity of the playground. As a result, restrictions were put in place at the beginning of the month. Guests were asked to limit their time at the playground to two hours, and weekend parking in the lots was available by reservation only. Rangers have been strictly enforcing the parking restrictions by checking for permits. On Tuesday, the city announced additional restrictions. The city said that due to continuing demands, parking reservations on weekends and holidays will now only be available for Waltham residents and people with disabilities. That includes Friday, which is the 4th of July holiday, meaning parking restrictions will be in place for visitors at the playground. Parking during non-holiday weekdays is open to everyone, and no reservation is required. Anyone without a parking reservation is encouraged walk, bike, or use services like Uber or Lyft. Though families have had great reviews of the playground, some have said the crowds will keep them away for the time being. "I've driven by and been like absolutely not. It was wild. I wouldn't even bother coming in on the weekend," one mom of a toddler told WBZ-TV earlier this month. The playground is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
