A Spring 2026 Copenhagen Fashion Week Preview

Photo: Courtesy of Souleymane Said Renewal is the key word for Copenhagen Fashion Week's spring 2026 season. Renewal because three seasoned female designers taking on new challenges—Anne Sofie Madsen is reshaping her long dormant brand, craft-obsessed Freya Dalsjø is making a return to the runway, and Astrid Andersen will be back for the third time with her new label Stel. And renewal because brands who are part of CPHFW's history are making homecomings. These include Arnar Már Jónsson and Luke Stevens of Ranra, who made their catwalk debut in 2023 as Zalando Sustainability Award winners; Sweden's Rave Review, who were last on the schedule in 2020; and hometown hero Cecilie Bahnsen, who now shows in Paris but will stage a 10-year retrospective presentation in the Danish capital. It's bolstering to see 'graduates' of Copenhagen Fashion Week's New Talent scheme—like LVMH finalist Nicklas Skovgaard—stay on the calendar, and to see STEM and P.L.N. return to it. We know that fashion's appetite for the brand new is insatiable, but fulfilling that hunger can come at a cost. Having talent and building a business are two different things and sustaining creativity is as important as initial support for it. Also, 'emerging' is a descriptor that can be applied not only to the young ones starting out, but to designers with years of experience who are reimagining themselves and their businesses.

As reported, on the evening of Sept. 18, the brand, whose creative director is Wes Gordon, will stage its spring 2026 collection — and third international show — in Madrid at a soon to-be-revealed location, following a celebration dinner on Sept. 17. In an effort to build meaningful relationships between international stakeholders in press and media and the designer brands who show during NYFW, the CFDA NYFW Fund was established in 2022 to raise awareness of the importance of NYFW's cultural, artistic and economic impact. Now in its seventh season, the CFDA NYFW Fund has supported nearly 50 international editors to date with financial and in-kind support made possible through brand contributions and strategic partnerships. 'The collections this September represent the resilience and dynamism of the city through a global lens,' said Joseph Maglieri, CFDA's director of fashion week initiatives. 'With great returns to the calendar, visiting brands from around the world and a new guard of rising talent finding their rhythm and stride, New York Fashion Week continues to be a gateway for discovery, creativity and storytelling representing the spirit and independence of American fashion.' Since acquiring the Fashion Calendar in October 2014, the CFDA has served as the sole organizer of the Official NYFW Schedule. The Season of the Reboot—the New York Fashion Week Spring 2026 Calendar Has Been Released

It's still July, but anticipation is rising for the spring 2026 collections in September, fashion's 'season of the reboot.' Everywhere you look, it seems, change is afoot. While most designer debuts, from Dario Vitale at Versace and Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta to Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga and Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, will take place in Europe, New York Fashion Week has its fair share of headlines and newcomers, too. The season will kick off slightly later than usual (which means that many of us will be able to take our first honest-to-goodness Labor Day vacation… maybe ever?). Serving as the season's off-schedule curtain raiser will be Brandon Maxwell with a show for his 10th anniversary on Tuesday, September 9. The official opener will be Michael Kors at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 11—angel numbers, anyone? On the debut front, Nicholas Aburn, a former Balenciaga couture designer who has replaced Piotrek Panszczyk at Area, will show his first collection on Friday, September 12 at 10 a.m., while Veronica Leoni and Frances Howie will present their sophomore efforts for Calvin Klein Collection and Fforme, respectively, that afternoon. Later that day, Ib Kamara will be back in New York with his latest collection for Off-White, and capping off the evening, Alexander Wang's own return to the NYFW schedule will overlap with cult-favorite SC103's calendar debut. Also returning this season are Amy Smilovic of Tibi on Saturday, Jason Wu on Sunday, and Toteme on Monday morning. Additional new names on the schedule include Maria McManus; Zane Li, with his debut runway show for Lii; and Amir Taghi, an Oscar de la Renta alum. Colm Dillane of KidSuper, who usually shows in Paris, is on the schedule on Sunday evening with a fashion and event double-feature. Dynasty and Soull Ogun of L'Enchanteur, last year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, will stage their first-ever runway show. They'll be joined on the schedule by 2025 finalists Bernard James, Don't Let Disco by Ashley Moubayed, Gabe Gordon and Timothy Gibbons of Gabe Gordon, Heirlome's Stephanie Suberville, Jamie Okuma, Ashlyn by Ashlynn Park, Bach Mai, and Meruert Tolegen. Julian Louie of Aubero, who showed his latest collection by appointment in Paris last month, and Peter Do are not listed on the schedule.

Scouting Trips: Designers Channel Summer Memories With Merit Badges and Medals

Empty desks and OOO messages indicate that we're officially approaching corporate midsummer. Office talk might already be turning toward fall planning, but our daydreams continue to be escapist, and often nostalgic with summer memories. In applying scout-like badges and merit pins to clothes, and using beribboned medals as accessories to their fall 2025 and spring 2026 collections, designers seem to be saying, 'We know what you did that long-ago summer,' back when life was simpler, and the authority figure was a camp counselor rather than a CEO. La Pomme Grande! Chanel's Metiers d'Art Show Will Return to New York This Year

The year of creative director debuts continues full-steam ahead, and as the spring 2026 collections near, so do expectations rise. Matthieu Blazy will introduce his new vision for Chanel this October in Paris in what is sure to be one of the most-discussed collections of the season, but already the maison is planning what comes next. Today, it announced that the Métiers d'art show will take place on Tuesday, December 2 in New York City. 'I am delighted that Matthieu Blazy has chosen New York for his first Métiers d'art show,' said Chanel president Bruno Pavlovsky in a statement. 'He will make the creative energy of the city he knows so well resonate with the exceptional savoir-faire of the house.' Chanel last held a Metiers d'art show in New York in December 2018, when Karl Lagerfeld took over the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a collection that fused a kind of uptown chic with Ancient Egyptian geometry—along with a trove of gold embellishments. Although we don't yet know where in the city Blazy will make his first Metiers d'Art statement, we can be sure that it will be another spectacular chapter in Chanel's new era. We'll keep our eyes peeled!
