Official: Two Real Madrid stars handed new jersey numbers
Two members of the first-team ranks at La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have this week been afforded new squad numbers. First up, as expected, comes Kylian Mbappé. Following weeks of speculation surrounding Real Madrid's iconic no.10 following the departure of Luka Modrić, frontman Mbappé has officially taken over ownership of the shirt. A year on from his free agent arrival from Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman has seen his importance aptly recognised: As alluded to above, though, Mbappé is not the only member of Xabi Alonso's squad set to take to the pitch this coming season donning a new number. So too will teammate Raúl Asencio. Defender Asencio earlier this week saw his status as a first-team player in Spain's capital confirmed. This of course comes after a breakout campaign for the 22-year-old in 2024/25. And days on, Asencio's squad number, too, has been unveiled. As confirmed on Real Madrid's official website, the Spaniard will take to the pitch with the no.17 across his back this coming season. Conor Laird – GSFN
