Strong winds wreck 75 Temerloh homes

KUANTAN, June 10 — A total of 75 houses were damaged following heavy rain and strong winds that struck several areas in Temerloh yesterday evening. According to the Temerloh District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the incident occurred around 5pm and affected residents in Taman Sri Kerinau, Kampung Pulau Terap, Taman Pamah Kasih, Taman Pulai Bistari, and Kampung Batu 4 1/2 along Jalan Maran. 'No injuries or fatalities were reported, and no temporary relief centres have been opened so far,' the statement read. The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) has been deployed to the affected areas to assess the situation, gather data, and distribute food aid to residents. — Bernama

MetMalaysia issues warning for thunderstorms, strong winds in 10 states until 6pm today

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning for 10 states, effective until 6pm today. In a statement, MetMalaysia said the warning covered the entire states of Perlis and Penang, as well as several districts in Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baru) and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak). The warning was also issued for Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Bentong and Bera), and Selangor (Gombak and Hulu Langat). Similar weather conditions are expected to affect Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu and Seremban) and Johor (Kluang, Mersing, Kulai and Kota Tinggi). In Sabah, the affected areas include Tawau (Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan and Beluran). — Bernama

An orange-level heavy rain warning is in place for the Tararua Range, the ranges of Tasman northwest of Motueka, the headwaters of the Canterbury Lakes and rivers about and south of Arthur's Pass, Buller, and the ranges of the Westland District from Saturday afternoon. Between 60 and 150 millimetres of rain is expected to accumulate, but there is only a minimal chance of the orange-level warning upgrading to a red-level one. MetService has warned surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions are possible. However, damage to trees, powerlines, and unsecured structures are possible. Driving may also be difficult, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles. There is also a heavy rain watch for Bay of Plenty east of Ōpōtiki, Taumarunui, Waitomo, Waikato south of Raglan, Tongariro National Park, Taupō west of the Lake, Taranaki Maunga, Richmond and Bryant ranges, also the Rai Valley, ranges of the Grey District, headwaters of the Otago Lakes and Rivers, and Fiordland north of Doubtful Sound - all with a moderate chance of upgrading to a warning. A strong wind watch has been issued for the Wairarapa, also with a moderate chance of upgrading to a warning. MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm and strong wind warning for nine states and Labuan

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning for nine states and the Federal Territory of Labuan. In a statement, MetMalaysia said the warning covers Penang, Perlis and Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu). Similar weather conditions are also expected in Bera and Rompin in Pahang; Hulu Langat in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and several areas in Johor, namely Tangkak, Segamat and Muar. The warning also extends to Labuan and several parts of Sabah, particularly the interior areas such as Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Keningau, as well as the west coast including Papar. — Bernama
