I tried on more than a dozen dresses from Simons, from $59 to $625 — here are my honest thoughts

I was surprised by many Simons dresses were flattering on my 48-year-old body. Simons is one of those department stores where you can find everything — including a plethora of dresses, bags, accessories and more. I've been obsessed with dresses lately, so on a recent shopping trip, I decided to try on more than a dozen of them. I tried on 16 different minis, maxis and even some more formal looks, ignoring the prices and asking myself which dresses I would choose if money were no object. It was liberating, and surprisingly, many of the dresses I selected were well within my budget. I even found one that reminded me of my favourite dress from years past, which I had to give away as it no longer fit my post-mastectomy body. From $59 to $625, check out 8 of the prettiest Simons dresses that'll take you from summer into fall — from work to weddings — below. Twik Dual-Material Midi Dress $69 at Simons Oh, how I love a multi-material dress. This one, with its fitted jersey top and poplin bottom, fits me like a glove. At just $69, I was ready to take it home on the spot. The side slit pockets add a subtle, casual flair that busy moms like me adore. I love that this dress looks so much more expensive than it is — I can see it easily taking me from a day of work to an evening of cocktails with friends. Contemporaine Small Fall Flowers Chiffon Dress $125 at Simons I'm already envisioning this lightweight chiffon dress styled with brown boots and tights for fall. It features a six-button crewneck, which I adore. The ruffled trim adds a flirty touch to this above-the-knee length dress, and the tiny floral print is so flattering. With sizes ranging from XS to XXL, this comfortable and cute dress works for many body types. Twik Blue Peonies Smocked Dress $59 at Simons You know that one dress you can toss in your bag without worrying about wrinkles? This is it! The smocked and ruffled waist gives it great shape, while the patterned print is summery, but dark enough that it can easily take you into fall. It falls mid-calf, which is my favourite length on my 5'5" body. The only downside is that it's only available in small, medium and large — I wish it came in more sizes. But at $59, this stylish and affordable piece is still a fantastic find. Twik Gathered Open Back Maxi Dress $59 at Simons This dress made me feel like one hot mama — I think it would be great for a night out with friends or a more casual wedding. The stretch fabric is fitted but not too tight, while the open back adds just the right amount of playfulness. The gathered fabric at the back and sides subtly conceals any signs of my mom-pooch. Since menopause, finding a dress that makes me feel sexy has been a challenge, but in this one, I feel both comfortable and cute. And for just $59? You can't go wrong. Twik Honeycomb Dress Touches Flax $79 at Simons The adjustable straps on this frock provide a custom fit, while the smocked band below the bust flatters all body types. Made from a comfortable linen-rayon blend, this dress will feel great on those super humid summer days and nights. The decorative bow at the front adds the perfect touch of detail. Pair it with a blazer or cardigan in the fall, and you'll be ready for any occasion. Ever New Macro Ruffles Flower Maxi Dress $100 $200 at Simons Trying on this dress brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of one I used to own and love, but had to give away as it no longer fit my post-mastectomy body. With its ruffled edges and lighter colours, I think I love this dress even more than the one I had. And it's on sale for 50 per cent off! It's gorgeous, glamorous, and I know it will be a staple in my closet for years to come. Sizes are super limited, so act fast if you're looking to snag this beauty. Farm Rio Pure Linen Square Neckline Dress $625 at Simons While trying on this dress, I felt like I should be hosting a dinner party in the French countryside. Made from 100 per cent pure linen with a viscose lining, it's designed for comfort. The smocked back provides a more tapered fit, while the elastic puff sleeves are incredibly flattering. The beautiful embroidery on this Farm Rio ankle-length number — a favourite brand of Taylor Swift, Meghan Markle, Selena Gomez and more celebrities, BTW — adds to its old-world charm. At $625, it's the most expensive dress on my list, but the stunning number definitely stands out in a crowd. Farm Rio Boho Floral V-Neck Dress $425 at Simons This Farm Rio dress was the first one I noticed when I walked into the store. The soft viscose fabric felt soft against my skin, and the V-neck collar with its ruffled edging added an extra bit of detail, characteristic of this Brazilian fashion label. I also really appreciate the hidden side zipper, which enhances the fitted silhouette of the dress. At $425, it's certainly not cheap, but the warm shades of the garden pattern make it a versatile choice for spring, summer and even fall. Heck, wear a black cashmere cardigan, some black tights, and high boots, and you can rock it at your office holiday party.

11 best modest dresses, tops, pants & more for summer 2025 that will keep you covered, cool and stylish

As someone who dresses modestly — and has for most of their life — I have my fair share of tricks to transform any piece into something that's modest girl-approved. When I was younger, this frequently included layering under and over a specific dress, skirt or top to the point that I would be seriously uncomfortable in the heat. But as I got older, I began opting for anything that would give me coverage I wanted, was made up of breathable fabric and required the least amount of modifications and or layering. I just wanted to pop on an outfit without jumping through multiple hoops to make it work. This year, that task was made somewhat easier because some of the current summer fashion trends match my modest preferences. There are actually skirts and dresses that are long, flowy, loose, lined and slit-free. Tops and pants are also longer and looser. If you're looking for modest summer clothing for 2025 and beyond, I combed through dozens of retailers to round up my favourite modest fashion picks that require little to no layering or modifications. Typically, longer blouses are better, but for summer, a cropped blouse is perfect to pair over maxi skirts. I especially love this cotton gauze fabric because of how cooling and breathable it is. Plus the pale blue colour is ideal for summer. There was a point in time when I wouldn't touch dresses without long sleeves. But recently, I realized that really cuts my summer fashion options, so I altered my approach. I love this sleeveless full-length dress as a layering option; it looks great with a cropped or short cardigan that's breathable enough to work for warm weather. And while I typically only consider sleeveless dresses without slits, I made an exception for this one because how perfect it is in all other fronts. From the fabric, length and flow this dress is extremely modest. The fit and flare silhouette is super flattering and also ensures the dress doesn't cling to the body, plus the slit can be easily sewn up. Tall girl tip: If you struggle to find a full-length dress that's actually full length, this brand delivers! A lightweight cardigan is an absolute closet staple for anyone, especially for me this summer — I pair it with a sleeveless maxi dress or over a maxi skirt. This option from Uniqlo is especially great for the summer due to its added UV protection. I love that this longer blouse provides additional coverage for the front and back. It's also also available in numerous colours, designs and sizes. When I see a shirt being described as a tunic, it's like music to my ears. It means a shirt will be longer and provide the additional coverage I look for in my modest wardrobe. This poplin belted tunic shirt is 100 per cent cotton, making it nice and cooling for the summer. It can be worn over a pair of jeans, pants or even styled over a maxi dress or skirt. While this is technically a dress, I personally would think of it as a tunic to wear over jeans or pants. I love the colour, fabric and tiered look of this one plus the belted sleeves. You can't go wrong with a maxi skirt — especially this year. A lot of the maxi skirts available this season are slit-free, fully lined and flowy: no clinging to the body! These chic palazzo pants are high-waisted, loose and flowy and can easily go from day to night. They're ideal for a modest-look — business or casual. This dress has long sleeves and is full length, depending on your height. It's made of 100 per cent organic cotton gauze, making it breathable, soft and comfortable for hot summer days. This classic linen shirt can be easily be paired with a skirt, pants and even over a dress. It's a versatile closet staple that's great to have on hand for a modest wardrobe. I've been on the hunt for a denim skirt — and I think I've found the perfect one. This one looks to be maxi length and has no slits, plus it has a fit and flare style, which I love.

I'm a Plus-size Travel Writer, and These Are the Dresses I'll Be Wearing All Summer Long

Every stylish person's summer travel wardrobe could use a fresh infusion of fun, comfortable dresses. As a plus-size travel writer, I'm always keeping an eye out for dresses that fit my must-have criteria. I need a summer dress to be easy to wear and curve-friendly, as well as wrinkle-resistant (or worth the time to steam), and effortlessly cute. Most importantly, I need to feel good wearing it. That means it needs to have the right fit and feel great against my skin. These plus-size summer dresses check all those boxes. Whether you're looking for one-and-done travel outfits, something to wear for a special event, or a fresh find to spruce up your closet, these picks are the ones I'll be reaching for all season long. $100 $60 at This blue floral midi dress is a recent favorite of mine. It's available in both regular and petite plus sizes (a win if you're shorter like me), and I especially love the soft, stretchy smocked bodice that makes it so easy to wear on long flights or full travel days. The sweetheart neckline and flutter sleeves add to the charm—those sleeves especially make this one feel extra summery. Need it fast? Over at Amazon, you can score a similar style for $42 and have it at your doorstep in two days. Quince's tiered maxi dress in Vermilion Red is simple in the best way and always makes me feel bold when I'm on the go. Made from 100 percent organic cotton, it's breathable and airy, with a gathered waist that offers shape while still keeping things relaxed. The deep pockets are incredibly useful for stashing travel essentials, and the V-neck and short sleeves look great in every photo. Planning active adventures this summer? This high-neck mini dress is a game-changer. Available in sizes up to 3XL, it includes built-in mid-thigh Booty Boost shorts that help prevent chafing (a big deal for me!). I usually wear separate shorts under dresses, so having them built in is a huge plus. It's made from a breathable, sweat-wicking fabric and comes in five fun colors—including tulip pink and deep azure blue—that are perfect for summer. This brightly-hued dress is pure joy to wear. The V-neck and roomy sleeves give it an easy silhouette, and the black rainbow stripe version is just one of many playful prints available. I love that it's wrinkle-resistant; it comes out of my suitcase ready to wear. For a casual travel day, this one's a staple. The Torrid Challis Maxi Dress always helps me feel put-together with zero effort. The bold print and contrasting pattern detail at the hem make it feel more elevated than your average maxi. The V-neck and flutter sleeves are lovely, and the elastic waist helps it stay in place while still feeling breezy. Just a note: there's not much stretch in the fabric, so I recommend sizing up for extra room, or opting for this stretchier option from Amazon that has a similar look to it. When I want to feel comfy while still putting on a fun, playful look, I reach for this colorfully printed stretchy cotton dress. It has a relaxed, lounge-friendly fit that still works great out and about. The smocked bodice and flowy skirt give it polish, and the stretchy cotton fabric comes in clutch while traveling in the summer. $90 $54 at My ultimate 'resort vibes' dress, the beaded knot detail at the halter neck adds texture, and the easy jersey fabric is soft and flowy without clinging. The Black Leaves and Brown Palms prints both scream summer vacation in the best way, but if you're craving brighter colors, this playful alternative is a must. A true mood booster in a dress, this beachy piece is made out of a soft, stretchy fabric. It's one of those all-day-wear pieces that doesn't need a break-in period. It has side pockets, a relaxed fit, and comes in cheery prints like Black Lemon and Yellow Flower. My go-to when temps climb, this linen dress has such a crisp and clean look that I love. It's breathable, versatile, and made from European linen with thoughtful details like shell-style buttons and subtle pleats. I love wearing it as a beach cover-up. Looking for something a little extra? This scallop-trim mini dress has frilly details that make it fun to pair with elevated accessories for a nice dinner, or sneakers and a denim jacket for everyday wear. It's wrinkle-resistant, making it perfect for packing. I love the midi length, but this ankle-grazing option is great if you prefer more coverage. $100 $45 at Easy to throw on and go, I always feel great about myself when I wear this chic and classic style. The soft, smocked waistband adds comfort without squeezing, and I love the V-neck and shirred shoulders. It also has—you guessed it—pockets. It's available in both regular and petite plus, which is a big deal for us shorter folks, and while I love the cute green and pink shades it comes in, people who love their florals will definitely have to check out this Amazon lookalike. Spanx's Oprah-loved AirEssentials line just got a summer upgrade. The AirEssentials Maxi Dress puts the ultra-light, four-way stretch fabric on display (psst: did you know it's actually designed to actually feel cool to the touch?). It's buttery soft and flowy, with side slits that let you move easily. I love the fennel green, but the striped version also has a nautical summer vibe. Don't be surprised if you find it so comfy, you end up wearing it on a flight. A swingy, tiered silhouette meets a cheerful pattern in this short-sleeve dress, making it one of my summer MVPs. The empire waistline is soft and stretchy, and the flutter sleeves complete the playful vibe it gives off. It also resists wrinkles, so it's a reliable throw-on-and-go option. This is my splurge pick—and one I always feel amazing in. The cobalt-on-ivory design is eye-catching, and the relaxed fit, loose sleeves, and wrinkle-resistant linen-viscose blend make this Marie Oliver dress perfect for destination weddings or dressy events during your travels. Shopping on a budget? You can get the same stunning print inspiration from this Ruffle Trim Linen Blend Shift Dress from Caslon, $100, or opt for this summery tank style from London Times that's on sale for 55 percent off and just $53. $90 $54 at Short, sweet, and full of personality, this soft knit dress has flutter sleeves, a surplice neckline, and princess seams for a comfortable feel and tailored look. It pulls on easily and has pockets to keep your passport and phone within reach on travel days. The Blue Bandana and Atlantic Deep prints are both summer-ready showstoppers, but this under-$30 option from Amazon comes in a plethora of solid colorways, all with a ribbed texture for some added visual interest. My 9 top summer style icons, from Tom Cruise to Arthur Ashe

Summer is almost here, which is troubling, particularly if you're a man who wears clothes. As the days lengthen and the temperature rises, we — men — are required to cast aside the easy comfort of coats, jumpers and trousers and transition into our summer wardrobe. It's a testing time with nowhere to hide. And while there is always the option of 'shorts and T-shirt', there's a real risk that you just end up looking like a toddler with gigantism, particularly if you're into Velcro sandals and ice lollies. Which unfortunately I am. So what's the solution? It's mostly a question of inspiration — past or present. Look around you. Who looks good in hot weather? Whom can you copy? Because once you've identified your
