New Brunswick asks residents to conserve water
New Brunswick is encouraging residents to conserve water as groundwater and surface water levels are lower than normal across the province.
The government says stream flows are below the long-term normal everywhere except the northwest part of the province. The northeast and southeast area, along with the Bay of Fundy coast, are reporting all-time low stream flows.
Groundwater levels are well below normal in the eastern and southeastern monitoring sites.
'Recent heat waves, coupled with low precipitation over the last few weeks, have affected water levels,' said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage in a news release. 'A slow and steady rainfall over several days is needed to help improve low water levels, so we are asking everyone to do what they can to conserve water.'
To conserve water, the province recommends:
using washing machines and dishwashers less frequently
taking quick showers
avoiding washing vehicles, watering lawns and filling swimming pools
checking for leaks in plumbing systems
