York's own tansy beetle to be honoured at activity-filled jamboree
A rare and 'totally local' critter is set to be celebrated at a special event.
The Jewel of York Jamboree, to be hosted at Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park, aims to raise awareness of and support for the tansy beetle.
Distinguished by its metallic green hue, the tansy beetle primarily relies on tansy plants, which grow near riverbanks, for its food and shelter.
Festival-goers can anticipate a range of activities, including eco-crafts, beetle art (upcycled insect hotels; seed bombs), scavenger hunts, bug-spotting, pond-dipping, and science talks.
There will also be food and live music.
The jamboree aims to celebrate the conservation efforts of volunteers, landowners, and local charities.
Tickets to the Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park must be purchased to gain jamboree admission; entry is half-price for children.
The jamboree will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, August 16.
