Police officer 'feared he would be killed' after being attacked by own baton
A thug battered a police officer with his own baton and bit his ear leaving the constable fearing he was going to be killed. Darren Davies turned on PC Iain O'Donnell in darkened woods in Leslie, Fife last September 10. The 34 year-old launched the brutal attack despite a police dog sinking its teeth into Davies. The assault only ended when a badly wounded PC O'Donnell was able discharge incapacitant spray into his eyes - although Davies still later went on to kick another officer. He is now behind bars after he admitted his guilt during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. Davies had fled a house after an argument with a woman there had led to police being called. PC O'Donnell - a trained dog handler - went on to find Davies in a desolate area of nearby woods that night. The tattooed thug yelled at him: "You are not going to arrest me." He continued to be aggressive as the officer tried to calm him. PC O'Donnell shouted: "Police with a dog. Stay where you are or I will send the dog." But, instead, Davies ran at the constable, wildly swinging punches while screaming: "Let it bite me." The dog repeatedly got hold of Davies, but the thug still lashed out hitting PC O'Donnell. The officer tried to sweep his legs away and pin him to the ground. Prosecutor Stewart Ronnie: "PC O'Donnell struggled to escape. They both rolled down a hill and the officer ended up in a seated position. "Davies stood behind and began to strike blows on top of his head. "The officer noticed these were significantly stronger than ones earlier. "When each landed, he saw stars and felt significant sharp pain on his head. PC O'Donnell was now in fear of his life." The constable was stricken on the ground as crazed Davies then bit through the top of his ear. He was unable to defend himself, but eventually managed to wriggle free. It was then PC O'Donnell was able to push Davies away and discharge his incapacitant PAVA spray into his eyes. Two other officers then turned up to help their bleeding colleague. The court heard, after Davies was arrested, PC O'Donnell "collapsed to his knees, dizzy, exhausted and in severe pain". He was then taken to hospital. It emerged he had been repeatedly whacked with his police baton. PC O'Donnell luckily suffered no fractures, but has been left scarred for life from the injuries. He was off work for four weeks and continues to receive trauma counselling. The officer remains conscious of his scars. The court heard that, after Davies was held, he booted another officer while in the police van. Davies - who already had convictions for violence - pled guilty to assaulting PC O'Donnell to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement. He had initially faced an attempted murder allegation. Mark Stewart KC, defending, said Davies realised he should have stopped when faced by police, but that "one thing led to another and matters got out of hand" that night. Lord Mullholland remanded Davies in custody as sentencing was deferred for reports. The judge told him he would have been looking at a jail-term "well into double figures" had he been convicted of the original charge, but that he was still facing a "significant sentence".

Air-rage thug who threatened to gang rape stewardess is set to have 'unduly lenient' sentence reviewed - after complaints Lucy Connolly was jailed for TWICE as long over migrant tweet
A thug jailed for abusing first class cabin crew on a flight from London will have his sentence reviewed for being 'unduly lenient'. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called on the Attorney General Lord Hermer to consider recommending the Court of Appeal increase the 15-month jail term handed to Salman Iftihar. Mr Philp said the sentence was evidence of 'two-tier justice', given Lucy Connolly was jailed for 31 months for a tweet about the Southport riots. Mr Philp told the Mail: 'Iftikar was sentenced to only 15 months in prison last week for threatening an air stewardess with gang rape and for racially aggravated harassment. Iftikhar has multiple previous convictions. 'Yet Lucy Connolly got 31 months for a far less serious offence - a prosecution Lord Hermer personally authorised. 'This is two-tier justice in action. 'I have today referred the case to the Attorney General Lord Hermer for review under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. 'We'll now find out if Hermer is willing to take action to fix Britain's two-tier justice problem.' Recruitment tycoon Iftikhar, 37, was flying in first class when he launched a vile tirade of abuse towards Virgin Atlantic staff on a flight from London Heathrow to Lahore in his homeland of Pakistan. Wealthy passengers aboard the flight watched in horror as the recruitment boss repeatedly called steward Angie Walsh a 'f***ing b****' at 39,000ft. The father-of-three later threatened to blow-up the five-star hotel the cabin crew were set to stay in. Isleworth Crown Court heard he left Ms Walsh 'broken' and 'traumatised' having declared she would be dragged out of her hotel room and assaulted. The businessman had been binging on champagne, and also tried to fight another steward and even threatened to blow up the floor of the Avari Lahore Hotel, where the cabin crew were due to stay. In one clip of Iftikhar's 100 rants during the trip, he can be heard repeatedly accusing Ms Walsh of being a racist and says: 'You called me a p*ki in front of everybody.' All this unfolded in front of Iftikhar's wife and children who were crying and pleading for him to stop and had to be comforted by the cabin crew as he continued to hurl abuse for the entire flight. Iftikhar was later arrested at his detached home in Iver, Buckinghamshire, and admitted making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment. The post, which she later deleted, said: 'Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care... if that makes me racist so be it' He and his wife Erum Salman, 38, run a London-based staffing company that provides training to businesses working in customer service and manufacturing. Mr Philp compared his sentence with that of councillor's wife Connolly, who was jailed after admitting to making her 'racist' post on X, formerly known as Twitter in the wake of the Southport riots. The post, which she later deleted, said: 'Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care... if that makes me racist so be it.' She lost an appeal to shorten her 31-month sentence earlier this year. In his letter to Lord Hermer, Mr Philp said Connolly - who is due for release later this month - 'made a wrong and distatesful social media post', but said Iftikhar made 'over 100 sickening threats' to cabin crew, and has previous convictions. Mr Philp wrote: 'I am sure you agree that this cannot be right. 'Given the severity of the threats and the vile language used by Iftikhar, I believe his sentence should be reconsidered and increased and I urge you to refer his case for review under the Unduly Lenient Scheme, which covers the offences for which Iftikhar was convicted. 'If you decide not to refer his sentence for reconsideration, then this would be yet another example of two-tier justice under this Government.' The scheme allows anyone to ask for a Crown Court sentence to be reviewed by the Attorney General's Office (AGO). If officers consider the sentence unduly lenient, they can ask the Court of Appeal to review the sentence. It will then be up to judges to decide whether or not the original sentence was appropriate. The offence of making threats to kill carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, but can be dealt with by a community order. Racially aggravated harassment carries a maximum jail term of up to two years' custody.

Thug who ran up and kicked girl, 6, in the head on a street and punched woman in face in random attacks jailed
A 'DANGEROUS' thug has been arrested after kicking a six-year-old girl in the street. The youngster was rushed to hospital after the 28-year-old targeted her on a busy street. 2 2 Caitalin Ganciu approached the unnamed girl in Millfield, Peterborough, and knocked her to the ground with a brutal kick. After striking her, he stopped to help her to her feet before fleeing the scene of the crime. The six-year-old was rushed to hospital after Ganciu made his escape. Later, a woman offered to help Ganciu after spotting him waving her arms. When she went into a nearby shop to get him some water, he followed her inside and punched her in the face. Ganciu then fled again, though police were able to pursue him. Before he was arrested, Ganciu viciously punched an officer in the abdomen. Eventually, he was bundled into the back of a police van where he violently kicked the vehicle's interior. Ganciu was hauled before Cambridge Crown Court on July 16 where he was handed a one year and seven month sentence. He pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm, one count of assault and one count of criminal damage. Yobs jump on moving police van & set off flares in clash with cops after small boat migrant 'sexually assaulted' girl Following Ganciu's arrest, DC Hannah Cookie said that he was a 'dangerous' man. She said: 'This was an horrific series of unprovoked attacks by Ganciu, and I have no doubt that his actions will have a lasting impact on the victims. 'He is clearly a very dangerous man who has no respect for other people, or the law. "Ganciu caused minor injuries to all three of his victims, and the six-year-old girl had to be taken to hospital to be checked over. 'Violence like this is inexcusable, especially towards a young child, and I am pleased he is now behind bars.'
