'Do not travel warning' issued as major rail station forced to close due to signalling issue
Commuters have been advised not to travel to Leeds Train Station after it was suddenly closed due to a fault. National Rail says all lines are blocked at the station due to a signalling system failure. According to travellers, scenes outside the station are "chaos". An update posted on National Rail's X - formerly Twitter - account said disruption had been expected until 5pm, but in an update shortly before 6pm, it said: "Leeds station is currently closed." BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy posted on the social media site: "Chaos at Leeds station, all trains not running. In huge queue waiting for replacement buses to Hull!" No trains are able to run to / from / through Leeds and will be cancelled, delayed by up to 120 minutes, revised or diverted. Leeds station is currently closed. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day. Services affected by the disruption includes: CrossCountry between Penzance, Plymouth, Bristol Temple Meads and Edinburgh; between Reading and Newcastle; and between Plymouth and Leeds, Glasgow Central. LNER between London Kings Cross and Bradford Forster Square, Skipton, Leeds, Harrogate. Northern between Blackpool North, Blackburn, Leeds and York; between Lancaster, Morecambe, Chester, Wigan Wallgate, Manchester Victoria, Bradford Interchange, Bradford Forster Square, Lincoln, Skipton, Ilkley, Castleford, Knottingley, Halifax, Hull, Goole, Doncaster, Sheffield and Leeds; between Leeds and Harrogate, Knaresborough, York, Ribblehead, Carlisle; and between Halifax, Bradford Interchange and Hull. TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle, Edinburgh; between Hull, Scarborough and Leeds; and between Manchester Victoria and Leeds, York, Scarborough, Saltburn, Redcar Central. Northern has told affected customers not to travel and ticket restrictions have been lifted for other services. LNER said rail replacement buses are in operation between Leeds and Doncaster, and is being arranged to run between Bradford Forster Square, Harrogate, York and Leeds. However there are a number of cancellations across LNER's route and they are advising customers for Bradford Forster Square, Harrogate, Wakefield Westgate and Leeds not to travel. TransPennine has told customers whose journey starts or ends at Leeds, or passes through, not to travel, unless it is necessary.

Major train disruption is affecting journeys in and out of Birmingham New Street station. The disruption is caused by damage to overhead electric wires in the Birmingham New Street area. Delays of 120 minutes or more, cancellations, and diversions are expected to continue until the end of the day (July 2). Affected train operators include CrossCountry, Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Transport for Wales, and West Midlands Railway. Routes to surrounding areas such as Coventry, Walsall, and Wolverhampton are also experiencing severe delays and cancellations.

Major disruption hits Birmingham New Street station
Trains travelling in and out of Birmingham New Street station are experiencing major disruption with potential delays of 120 minutes or more expected until the end of the day (July 2). Damage to an overhead wire has severely impacted the major West Midlands transport hub. Affected train operators include CrossCountry, Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway. Routes to the surrounding area, including Coventry, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Rugeley are all facing severe delays, cancellations and diversions. In an online statement, National Rail wrote that 'major disruption' at Birmingham New Street is expected 'until the end of the day'. It said: 'There is damage to the overhead electric wires in the Birmingham New Street area. This means some lines in/out of Birmingham New Street are blocked. 'Most platforms are unavailable at Birmingham New Street due to an issue with the overhead electric wires. Network Rail are on site assessing the situation. Further updates will follow as soon as information is available. 'If you are travelling, your journey may not run its full route, and may be cancelled or be severely delayed by up to 120 minutes.' Delays and alterations on south Essex c2c line as object caught in overhead wires
SERVICES across c2c's south Essex network are being disrupted this morning following reports of an object caught in overhead wires. Passengers travelling both two and from London can expect to see alterations to their journeys. Person on tracks snags CTA Blue Line on Chicago's Near West Side
CTA Blue Line trains were disrupted on Chicago's Near West Side during the Tuesday evening rush due to an unauthorized person on the tracks. The Chicago Transit Authority said just before 5:30 p.m., Blue Line trains were halted near the Racine stop on the Eisenhower Expressway branch of the line.
