Dubai: RTA to now use smart platform to monitor real-time traffic flow, slash delays
Dubai's transport authority will now be using a smart platform to analyse historical and real-time traffic flow on the emirate's roads over the past five years, in addition to real-time traffic data, the RTA announced on Monday, August 11. The digital platform called 'Data Drive – Clear Guide', will help the authority instantly identify road conditions, analyse speeds, recurring traffic patterns, times of smooth traffic flow, congestion points, traffic jams, and other traffic elements. One of the main goals of the platform is to help reduce delays on the road via the real-time monitoring of traffic diversions and events. This will help concerned RTA teams to intervene swiftly, take appropriate measures, and minimise resulting delays. The platform also further allows automated report generation, with results assessed and analysed before and after road works, helping to evaluate project effectiveness and support effective decision-making based on large, reliable, and continuously updated datasets. Officers will be able to see real-time road conditions on an interactive map. The geographic area or street to be analysed can be specified based on indicators that help identify the road to be studied, such as average speed, traffic density, and travel time. Process explained Before the new system, procedures depended on manually gathering information from various sources, such as consultants or field teams, or on reports compiled manually based on traffic variables, which led to delays in analysis and decision-making. Now, information that once took weeks to compile and analyse can be obtained in real time within minutes. At every stage, the platform relies on historical and real-time data from leading international specialist firms that supply vast volumes of traffic information, which is then processed using intelligent tools to deliver an accurate, instantaneous picture of traffic conditions. It provides instant messages and notifications about traffic movement on the emirate's streets, thereby supporting decision-making in addressing day-to-day changes. The platform also offers advanced analytical tools for assessing traffic performance over different timeframes — or on specific days and weeks — and benchmarking results against five years of historical data. This enables evaluation of traffic conditions and comparison of performance across those periods, as well as the detection of recurring congestion patterns or bottlenecks and any sudden or unexpected drops in speed, thereby improving response times and the efficiency of developing solutions.

Abu Dhabi: Valet parking services must obtain licences
A notice from the ITC emphasised that providing valet services without a licence, or misusing an existing one, constitutes a violation of laws Valet parking services in Abu Dhabi need to operate with a licence, according to the transport authority. A new notice issued by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, stressed that all entities offering valet parking services must obtain official licences before commencing any activity in the emirate. The notice clarified that providing such services without a licence, or misusing an existing one, constitutes a violation of the approved laws and regulations and subjects offenders to legal accountability. The ITC explained that its field inspection teams continue to carry out regular monitoring campaigns at service locations to ensure compliance with regulations and to maintain a safe and organised environment that reflects Abu Dhabi's quality of life standards. The ITRC urged relevant entities such as hotels, shopping centres and service providers to review their legal standing and verify the validity of their permits in line with the approved requirements. The Centre also emphasised the importance of the public choosing licensed providers when using valet parking services, to safeguard their rights and ensure the safety of their vehicles. The ITC confirmed that any reports of illegal practices or violations related to valet parking services will be received through the official communication channels. This comes as part of the Centre's ongoing efforts to enhance oversight, regulate service provision, and preserve the Emirate's civilised image. This directive forms part of the ITC's continued efforts to improve service quality, reinforce adherence to legislation, and ensure a safe, integrated mobility system that supports smoother traffic flow and contributes to enhancing overall quality of life.

8 drivers caught for providing illegal point-to-point services: LTA
SINGAPORE: Eight drivers have been caught providing illegal rides to two popular tourist spots - the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, as well as Gardens by the Bay. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Tuesday (Jun 17) that the arrests were made last week in a joint enforcement with the Singapore Tourism Board. The drivers also had their foreign-registered vehicles impounded, LTA said in a Facebook post. The drivers did not provide unlicensed tourist guiding activities, the authority added. LTA said it would continue to act against drivers who provide illegal point-to-point services using vehicles without public service vehicle licences. In response to CNA's queries, it noted that this was the first joint operation it had conducted with the tourism board. LTA said that since 2022, 68 drivers have been caught providing illegal cross-border passenger transport services using foreign-registered vehicles. All their vehicles were impounded, it said. LTA noted that it is illegal for Malaysia-registered private cars or private hire car services to provide cross-border or ride-hail services within Singapore. To provide taxi or chauffeured private hire car services, a valid public service vehicle licence is necessary, it said. Offenders face a fine of up to S$3,000 (US$2,300), up to six months' jail, or both. The vehicle used may also be forfeited. "The penalties for those who have been charged and convicted so far include fines of up to S$2,600 and vehicle forfeiture," LTA added.
