My Holy Grail Hiking Pants Are Cool on the Trails Yet Comfy Enough to Wear Every Day—and They're Under $100
There aren't many pieces in my closet I'd trust to survive both a harness and hollandaise sauce, but the FP Movement Champ Is Here Pants have done just that. Equal parts rugged and relaxed, these pants have carried me through sandstone slot canyons in Utah, red-eye flights across the country, and countless lazy brunches, and somehow still manage to elicit compliments e very single time I wear them. They're technical enough to adventure in, comfy enough to nap in, and stylish enough to pass for streetwear—basically, they're the holy grail of adventure pants. My love affair with these capris first started on a canyoneering trip in Utah, where I was gifted the pants to test out on the trails. I'll admit—I'm somewhat of an outdoor gear snob as I spend most of my free time outside and need my gear to hold up. That said, my first impression of these pants was… not great. Sure, they were super cute and incredibly comfortable, but I couldn't envision the featherlight material holding up against the rough, sandstone walls we were expected to rappel down. Boy, was I wrong… The FP Movement pants are made from a durable ripstop nylon that somehow manages to feel weightless and buttery against the skin while still holding up to serious abrasion. I scraped, scooted, and squeezed my way through narrow canyon walls, and they never tore once. The elastic paperbag waistband stays in place without being restrictive, while the cropped, slightly baggy silhouette keeps them breathable and easy to move in. They're also incredibly quick-drying, which came in clutch after getting soaked in a deep, cold pool at the bottom of a slot canyon. Since that trip, I've worn them weekly and, no exaggeration, get asked about them every time I put them on. Just last week, on a visit to Lake Placid, New York, my friends and I took a stroll around Mirror Lake, and of course, I wore these magical pants. Almost immediately, my friends complimented them and proceeded to each buy a pair themselves. For as technical and comfy as the Champ Is Here pants are, they're also downright cute. They come in a lineup of earthy, outdoorsy tones (mine are a muted olive green, but I'm eyeing the dusty rose next), and somehow look just as stylish with trail runners and a tank as they do with a cropped tee and Birks for coffee runs. The color-blocked piping and athletic stripes give them a vintage edge, too, and elongate the legs rather than cut them off, something capris are notorious for. If you're someone who wants performance gear that doesn't look like performance gear, these pants check all the boxes, and then some. Trust me—the FP Movement Champ Is Here Pants are worth every penny. But if you're not keen on shelling out nearly $100 for a single article of clothing, these hiking pants from Amazon are great, too. With a relaxed, streetwear-inspired silhouette and UPF 50+ protection, these lightweight hiking pants look great on the trail. The water-resistant fabric keeps you dry during unexpected drizzles, while the roomy cargo pockets (there are six!) and adjustable hems give you a functional fit, whether you're scrambling over boulders or over crowds at brunch. If you like the cropped length of the FP Movement Champ Is Here Pants, check out these rugged capris. They're a bit shorter than the original pants but have the same core features: a drawstring waist, deep pockets, quick-drying fabric, and a baggy silhouette. For $25, they're a steal. If you like the feel of lightweight athleisure fabric but need something more rugged, these Ksmien capris are a great pick. Made from a quick-drying nylon-spandex blend, they're stretchy, durable, and move with you. They also come in a versatile palette of earth tones and are stacked with pockets for everything you could possibly bring with you on your adventures. These Mocoly hiking pants have a slightly sportier look about them without the expensive price tag. They're lightweight, moisture-wicking, and perfect for hot-weather hikes; the UPF 50+ fabric protects from the sun's rays, making them perfect for summer getaways. Baleaf consistently nails budget-friendly performance wear, and these capris are no exception. While a touch slimmer than the Champ Is Here Pants, the cropped length, technical details, and colorblocked sealed zipper give them a similar vibe. Bonus: They're mosquito-repellent, so you won't have to worry about bugs. Fitted with a multitude of pockets and a comfortable drawstring waistband, these cargo capris are fit for the trails and the streets—and they're just $30 right now. A breathable blend of polyester and spandex is both sweat-wicking and quick-drying, plus the capris are designed with UPF 50+ sun protection that offers an additional barrier against harsh summer rays. If you're looking for a sporty pair of capris that show a little more leg, the Libin Women's Capri Pants are the perfect choice since they crop just below the knees and are made from a stretchy, moisture-resistant fabric. Four secure zippered pockets are ideal for storing your trail essentials without worrying they'll fall out, and these hiking pants even come in sizes XS to 3XL. The relaxed fit of the Champ Is Here Pants is one of the most appealing parts of the style, and you can channel that same look with these loose-fitting parachute pants that just went on sale for $20 at Amazon. The elastic waistband and high-waisted cut make these pants both flattering and comfortable, and they are fitted with several deep pockets for trail snacks. Plus, they're water-repellent, so even if you're caught in an unexpected downpour, at least your legs will remain dry. Love a great deal? Amazon Just Listed the Most Vacation-ready Linen Palazzo Pants—and They're Only $20
One item of clothing every summer traveler needs is a pair of linen pants that are light and breezy enough to wear on days so hot and humid that the air literally clings to you. Because shorts are not always appropriate, either for the dinner reservation or the destination in general, nor are they comfortable for long periods of sitting on a plane. No, you need bottoms that offer class and coverage while keeping you cool on vacation. You need these casual palazzo pants that shoppers are newly loving for everything from evenings in Mexico to lounge days at home. These wide-leg linen pants just dropped at Amazon at the beginning of fall, and now they're beginning to gain traction with the busy travel season upon us. The few dozen shoppers who are the first to give them a whirl are lucky to have copped them so early, as they say the pants are the most comfortable they've ever owned. 'I wish I could wear them every day,' one wrote. Made by the brand Grapent, the casual slacks are a blend of 30 percent linen and 70 percent viscose, which gives them a 'gauzy cotton' quality, according to reviewers. They are reportedly the perfect weight to wear in hot temperatures, but they aren't so thin that you can see through them (and depending on how many linen pants you've tried on, you might already know that opacity isn't always a given). They feature an elastic drawstring waist, 28-inch inseams, and faux buttons on the front, which firmly place them outside the realm of pajama aesthetics. 'These are the perfect material for a summer day out, a vacation day touring, or even a slightly amped-up lounge day,' a reviewer said. 'They are plenty comfy for any of those activities and have a nice, better-than-sweatpants look to them.' Plenty of others agree that while they feel as comfortable as your go-to loungers, they can be dressed up for a range of occasions, be it a day at the office or a special dinner to celebrate your son's destination wedding. 'They were breathable and really helped me with the super humid weather,' another vacationer said. However, one complaint that comes up repeatedly in the review section is that they wrinkle. While synthetic materials are crease-resistant, these pants are made largely of natural fibers—linen hailing from flax plants and viscose being only semi-synthetic, partially derived from wood. So, you should expect to see some texture when you unfurl them from their packing cube. Take a few minutes to smooth them out with a portable steamer before putting them on, and you'll be golden. The pants come in sizes small to XXL, and they're available in eight neutral colors, including almond, navy, army green, and cream. Prices range from $20 to $22, which is a bargain for any pants made of real linen. About 60 shoppers have rated the pants so far, and over 60 percent of them offered five stars. You can be one of the travel pants' earliest fans, too, and shop similar styles of breezy summer pants at Amazon below. The future vacation version of yourself will thank you. Love a great deal? Amazon's Top-rated Cooling Clothes Will Help You Beat the Heat This Summer—Shop the 11 Best Finds From $15
Outfits that are both comfortable and stylish to wear in extreme heat are hard to find. As a native Floridian and Orlando resident, I'm always on the lookout for smart cooling clothing that I can wear in the Sunshine State when temperatures reach scorcher levels (think: 95 degrees Fahrenheit and higher), and out on my trips as a travel writer. If you're packing for hot locales, like a Caribbean cruise or a Mediterranean summer, opt for clothes that are breathable, quick-drying, and lightweight to wear (bonus points if they offer UPF sun protection). To find this trifecta of comfort, you have to read some labels and learn a little about different fabrics (nylon and polyester are renowned for their moisture-wicking properties, while linen is preferred for its lightweight construction). But perhaps the most important thing to remember is to pack light, as in bright colors closer to the color spectrum of white (i.e., tan, beige, creme, or taupe). When you're outdoors in the sun, dark colors absorb more light and heat energy than lighter colors and will make you feel hotter faster. And, when possible, stash a mini portable fan in your bag so you can always catch a cool breeze. From head to toe, these are the 11 best cooling clothes and accessories for summer travel. They'll keep you feeling fresh and comfortable, no matter how high temperatures soar this summer, and they're all available at Amazon. Your first line of defense against the hot sun starts with your head. Usually, baseball caps sit snug to your head and act like an insulator, quickly leading to a sweaty head, but this innovative one features a unique water-absorbing fabric weave and a hollow core to store and spread water throughout the hat so you're always refreshed. For extra protection for your face and shoulders, I prefer a wide-brim hat like this crushable visor from Amazon. It keeps your face out of direct sunlight while letting heat escape from your scalp. It's also a great style for keeping hair from getting sweaty and smushed. It might seem backward, but having handy layers for hot weather will help you feel more comfortable. A white button-down keeps the sun off your arms. It's also useful when visiting locations where dress codes require covering your shoulders, like churches or temples. This button-down is lightweight and perfect for summer. The oversized cut allows for plenty of breathing room for a breeze. Wear this with shorts, pants, or over a dress. Lightweight linen is a great fabric for hot weather because it's breathable. Made of flax fibers, linen is a natural, ancient textile used for centuries, and is known for its durability. Linen's greatest downfall, however, is its tendency to wrinkle, which can be a nuisance for travelers. To solve this problem, look for linen blends . For example, the pants in this Amazon-loved matching set are blended with rayon, and the addition of a synthetic blend helps them dry faster than if they were just linen alone. Plus, the breezy tank top and relaxed fit of the pants will keep you cool in the heat. A versatile pair of shorts should be in your bag for any warm-weather trip. In hot climates, a breathable, quick-dry fabric ensures you won't stay damp in the event of a summer rainstorm. I'm always reluctant to pull out the hotel iron or steamer in hot locations, so the fact that these are wrinkle-free and stocked with functional pockets makes them a great addition to a summer packing list. These shorts have also been praised for their comfort and fit, which is crucial for long travel days. Whether you're travels take you trekking through a rainforest or navigating the busy streets of Rome, these shorts will prove to be a hard-working addition to your suitcase. Dresses are one of my favorite items of clothing to wear in hot weather because they don't constrict around my waist and they allow airflow around my legs. This loose-style, polyester-spandex blend dress is roomy and breezy. Plus, it has an adjustable, drawstring waistband and side pockets. If you're traveling by carry-on only and want to bring just one dress, this one is multipurpose. Straight out of the bag, it makes a great piece to wear out on a boat deck for enjoying the breeze in nautical stripes. Pro tip: I recommend wearing breathable, anti-chafe underwear or shorts underneath, and Amazon shoppers love these thigh-length options from Reamphy for their soft waistband and no-slip design. Shorts and dresses aren't the only ways to stay cool. If pants are more your style (or they fit your itinerary better), opt for a breathable, loose-fitting pair like these cargo capris from MoFiz. They're made with the perfect blend of nylon, viscose, and spandex to ensure that they're lightweight, stretchy, moisture-wicking, and cool to the touch. And, the 13-hue color range has options to suit anyone's travel style. An everyday T-shirt is a packing essential, but you don't want to wear something made with heavy, heat-retaining material when you're up against 90-plus-degree Fahrenheit temperatures. Thankfully, there are quick-drying options like this Baleaf athletic T-shirt. Available in eight classic, easy-to-match colors, the short-sleeve shirt boasts a four-way stretching fabric, flat seams to prevent chafing when you're on the move, and a longer back hem for extra coverage. The brand is a popular choice for travelers, and you can also refresh your travel wardrobe with the Baleaf Cool-dry Tank Top or the Baleaf UPF 50+ Long-sleeve Sun Shirt, both just $20. Using the science of evaporative cooling, a cooling neck gaiter can provide all-day relief from the heat. With a major artery running through your neck, cooling your chest and neck down when you get hot is one of the quickest ways to feel more comfortable. This UPF 50+ version uses Mission's HydroActive Wet-to-Cool Technology to cool up to 30 degrees below average body temperature in under one minute, according to the brand. All you have to do is wet it with cold water, wring it out, and then wear it. For something more fashionable, there's the Ergodyne Cooling Bandana, which can be worn like a headband or around your neck like a scarf. According to one shopper, who wore it on a trip to Egypt, "Seriously, it kept me cool all day long while I walked in the 115-degree (Fahrenheit) Egyptian desert and it hasn't dried out, even after I returned days ago and hung it out to dry." There's no better way to keep cool in the heat than by finding the nearest body of water. But after your dip, you'll need something to protect yourself from the sun. Enter: Willit's Hooded Swim Cover-up Dress. It's enhanced with UPF 50+ sun protection and made with a lightweight fabric specially designed to pull moisture away from your skin, so you won't feel sweaty under its long sleeves. This is a great outfit for days when you might be out all day doing activities that take you from sea to land, like lounging at the beach and then going to lunch, or hiking to a waterfall. With over 1,700 five-star ratings, Teva's original sandals are the perfect summer shoe that does it all and will last you more than one season. Summer sandals should have soft and cushioned soles. Thin, flat sandals will feel hotter on your feet against sunny pavement or cobblestone. Teva's adjustable strap design also allows you to change the fit of the shoe, which comes in handy if your feet swell in the heat or you're hopping in and out of water. Get a pair in a neutral color, like Sand Dune, so you can wear these with almost any outfit. This sling bag isn't a piece of cooling clothing , per se, but when packing for a day out in the heat, I recommend keeping your bag small and compact. Large totes will create friction against your side as you walk, generating more heat. Backpacks will insulate against your back and trap sweat. This one has room for a water bottle and your own battery bank. It comes in a crisp, summery ivory color that could match a lot of different outfits. Love a great deal? I'm a Travel Writer, and I Swapped Denim Shorts for Flowy Pants Years Ago—Shop My Top 7 Picks Under $50 at Amazon
I haven't been a fan of denim shorts for several years now. They never fit right, they're always riding up, and they're not ideal for sitting on a plane for hours. Flowy pants, on the other hand, are often made of lightweight materials like linen and cotton and offer cooling properties that are comfy to travel in. Amazon's fashion store is a goldmine for lightweight travel pants that'll add a breezy touch to your vacation outfits. So instead of sweating it out in tight, heavy denim, you can stay cool even in the hottest climates. Check out the best breathable and stretchy flowy pants at Amazon—prices start at $20. Reviewers are highly impressed with these wide-leg pants, so it's no wonder they've landed at number one on the best-sellers list. The smocked, stretchy waistband is the epitome of comfort and, one traveler described the pants as 'comfort and style had a baby and that baby grew up, traveled to Bali, [and] got a tan and chill confidence.' We couldn't ignore the fact that more than 3,000 of these linen-blend pants have been purchased this month. The design gives off an easy, relaxed style thanks to the wide-leg fit, and they're made from cotton and linen to create the perfect blend of lightness and breathability. One Amazon shopper confirmed their effortless style and wrote that they 'look like you are on vacation in Santorini or the Greek Isles,' even if you're just at your local beach. According to reviews, these white linen pants are light and airy, but the best detail is the crochet detailing along the legs that gives them an extra bit of oomph. One shopper, who wore them on a long road trip, said they're 'perfect for travel' and wrinkle-free. The simple design of these pants makes them ultra versatile to wear with swimsuits (as a cover-up) or flowy blouses and sandals. One shopper wore them while in Hawaii and loved the pants so much they wore them every day instead of any other bottoms they packed. These culottes are perfect for giving the spotlight to your sandals. They show off just some of your legs, so you can enjoy summer breezes while you settle in at a resort or explore outdoor markets with friends. The top of the pants has a tailored look, plus pockets and pleats for a polished look. You can pair them with a simple white T-shirt or an elegant floral blouse when you have a night on the town. There are wide-leg pants, and then there are these palazzo capris. They're so flowy and open, they almost look like a skirt, but you won't have to worry about them flying up from a gust of wind. The gingham pattern will add an elevated touch to your vacation clothes, and you can go from touring museums and wineries straight to dinner without having to change. Amazon Essentials' lightweight pants have a casual, relaxed look that'll give you some extra coverage from the sun while you walk around a new city (unlike shorts). The striped options have a preppy vibe that looks stylish and polished. One shopper commended the light material that helped them 'survive the heat and humidity' of Miami in June. Love a great deal?
