Woman in critical condition after being hit by falling branch at Montreal-area bus stop
A 76-year-old woman is in hospital in critical condition after she was struck in the head by a falling tree branch Saturday afternoon. Urgences-santé paramedics responded to the call in Côte Saint-Luc, a suburb on the island of Montreal, at 12:52. Urgences-santé spokesperson Jean-Marie Dufresne said it happened on Queen Mary Road, near the corner of Macdonald Avenue. "She was waiting for the bus," he said. According to Dufresne, the woman suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in critical condition. Montreal police were also dispatched to the area. While police say the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature, officers remained on the scene to assist in the event of a coroner's investigation. Ingela Lof, who lives in the neighbourhood, said she has worried about walking beneath the trees on her street because they're old. "There's a lot of people standing there by the bus stop in the morning," she said. "I walk there and I always peek up and make sure nothing is going to happen."
