Mainland China tutorial centre undeterred by warning over Hong Kong school programmes
A mainland Chinese tutorial centre has pressed on with promoting a programme costing nearly HK$200,000 (US$25,480) a year that it claims can help pupils attend a Hong Kong subsidised secondary school with accommodation and 'intensive training', despite warnings from authorities, the Post has found. A Post reporter posing as a parent was sent marketing materials on Wednesday, a day after Hong Kong's Education Bureau demanded a report from Caritas St Joseph Secondary School over joint promotion efforts with the New Oriental centre. A consultant from the mainland-based tutorial centre sent a brochure for its 'Bauhinia ThriveCamp Programme' featuring a large section dedicated to introducing the secondary school in Tsing Yi. The subsidised school is among the few in the city that provide student accommodation. According to the bureau, the school offers free tuition from Form One to Six. The agent said New Oriental would arrange 'targeted training' for students who signed up for the programme to help them secure a place in Hong Kong secondary schools. He placed particular emphasis on Caritas St Joseph Secondary School, which he said provided accommodation, adding that students had a higher chance of being admitted there.

Shenzhen-based tutorial centre denies offering DSE courses in Hong Kong
A Shenzhen-based tutorial centre accused of offering the city's university entrance examination curriculum in a private Hong Kong secondary school without registration has denied teaching the courses, saying it only acted as an agent to recruit students for the institution. Advertisement Capture Star also said in a statement on Friday that all promotional activities related to the private school were conducted in Shenzhen and not in Hong Kong. On Thursday, the Education Bureau accused Capture Star of recruiting students for its Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam programmes at a private secondary school, Tsung Tsin Middle School in Cheung Sha Wan, without registration. 'Capture Star only acts as an agent for Tsung Tsin Middle School's enrolment and does not hold classes at the school,' the centre said, adding that its 'promotion of Tsung Tsin Middle School is conducted entirely in Shenzhen and no promotional or enrolment activities are conducted in Hong Kong'. But the centre's prospectus for the 2025-26 academic year targeting students in mainland China showed Tsung Tsin Middle School in Hong Kong providing registered student status, school campus and hardware facilities, with Capture Star teaching the DSE curriculum across all subjects, producing learning materials and counselling students on the study pathway. Advertisement Capture Star's statement on Friday said it did not admit any students for the private school after it acted as an admission agent for the school, adding that all those accepted into Tsung Tsin Middle School attended school at the Cheung Sha Wan campus and that teachers were employed by the institution. A promotional message by the centre, which is still currently on Chinese social media platform, RedNote, said it targeted Form Four to Five students with Hong Kong identity cards and those who hope to get into Hong Kong universities or overseas institutions via the DSE, a qualification that is widely recognised worldwide.
