Nicole Kidman's nepo baby niece Lucia Hawley begs for a job as she reveals she is unemployed after quitting her TV gig in Australia and moving to London

Nicole Kidman 's niece Lucia Hawley has revealed she is unemployed after making the 'risky' move to live in London. The 26-year-old gave up her role as host of 7Bravo in Australia and relocated overseas last month. In her latest Substack blog, she spoke about the challenges of starting afresh in a new country without a job. 'On June 18, I officially made the move to London. On paper, this is a totally stupid decision, and honestly, frightens me (someone hire me pls),' she wrote. 'I am risk-averse, which means my body quite literally rejects the idea of both moving overseas being unemployed.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Lucia revealed she found it 'traumatic' to say goodbye to her boyfriend Henry and younger siblings. 'Saying goodbye to Henry was incredibly difficult (I am traumatised by airport goodbyes). Even harder were the goodbyes to my family - I kissed my little brothers through floods of tears,' she added. The presenter finished by saying while it was a hard decision to make, she knew it was ultimately for the best. 'It is exciting and freeing and kind of what life is all about. I believe home to be a feeling... Having a strong network of people who support you is what truly enables you to navigate the world with confidence and self-assurance,' she wrote. In December, Channel Seven announced that former Bachelor star Bella Varelis would be the new host of 7Bravo, following Lucia's resignation. Bella, who was runner-up on Locky Gilbert's season of The Bachelor, became the channel's new local host and the face of Live From E! red carpet events in Australia. NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer and Distribution, Australia & New Zealand Managing Director, Chris Taylor, said: 'We are thrilled to have Bella step into this much-coveted role, becoming the new host of 7Bravo. 'As a familiar face on 7Bravo, we have every confidence that her on-screen warmth, energy, style and expertise will continue to resonate strongly with audiences and talent alike.' Channel Seven said 'Lucia is departing the role at the end of this year to explore other opportunities' after two years. Lucia is the eldest child of Nicole Kidman's sister Antonia and her ex-husband Angus. She started her TV career after studying Arts at the elite University of Sydney. Following her degree and internship at Vogue Australia, she started working at a production company as an assistant and later applied for a job at 9Honey — Channel Nine's women's network. She eventually landed a role with NBC Universal - who launched 7Bravo in 2022.

People in disadvantaged communities have more negative attitude towards immigration, ESRI report finds

People living in disadvantaged communities in Ireland have a more negative attitude towards immigration , particularly in areas where there has been an increase in migrants, new research has found. The study by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) looked at how different types of communities shaped people's attitudes towards immigration in Ireland. The analysis is based on a 2023 Department of Equality survey on Irish attitudes towards migration and is combined with 2022 census data on the characteristics of communities. The study defines disadvantaged areas as places with higher proportions of households headed by lone parents, the unemployed and those with a low education level or semi-skilled/unskilled jobs. READ MORE People living in these areas are less positive about immigration, with researchers quoting previous studies that found there is a 'greater perceived resource threat' among people in these areas, 'given more economically precarious individuals are likely to feel immigration is a particular threat to their position and resources'. While this negative attitude towards immigration in disadvantaged areas increased when the share of migrants went up, the paper also found that migrants are not more likely to live in these disadvantaged communities. It found the largest increase of migrant share between 2011 and 2022 happened in areas that are the least disadvantaged. The research also found that those living in rural areas had more negative attitudes towards immigration, compared with those living in urban areas. However, rural areas with high percentages of migrants had similar attitudes toward immigration as those in urban areas. The research also found that people living in more segregated areas, where migrants are living in clusters, have more negative attitudes towards immigration. The paper says this may reflect the importance of social contact with migrants for fostering more positive attitudes. 'This has important implications for policies aimed at improving migrant integration, but also indicates that broader economic and social policies and factors play a key role in social cohesion and attitudes towards immigration,' the paper says. There was no link between people living in areas with greater pressure on services such as health, housing and education and holding a more negative attitude towards immigration. This indicates that it may not be direct local experiences that affect attitudes but may instead be 'concern about pressure on services in Ireland as a whole', the paper says. Report author Fran McGinnity said the research 'shows that local communities can generate both obstacles to, but also opportunities for, social integration between non-migrants and migrants'. 'Communities are spaces where migrants and non-migrants not only encounter each other but can also form lasting social ties. This could be as next-door neighbours, as parents of children going to the same school, or in community groups. 'This kind of positive social contact between migrants and non-migrants can go a long way to generating positive relations between groups as well as building stronger, more cohesive communities in the long run,' Ms McGinnity said. Meanwhile, co-author of the report Keire Murphy said the research gives 'important insight into what makes anti-immigrant sentiment more likely'. 'Echoing international findings, socioeconomic factors like community-level disadvantage seem to matter, implying that the broader social and economic context is important for attitudes towards immigration,' Ms Murphy said.

Ten Ways To Supercharge Your Job Search

job search concept, find your career, woman looking at online website by laptop computer. People ... More searching for vacancies or position on the internet, recruiting, finding jobs. Unemployed and poor economy The average job search today lasts 24 weeks. As an independent career coach for 28 years, I can promise you that job search success is no accident. With job searching on the rise, you might want to check to see if you're in a mentally good place. Here are the ten most common reasons for succeeding in your job search. Success Reason One: Think positive. Nobody ever got anything accomplished with negative thinking, which is all you need to understand in sculpting your attitude. And while there are many factors beyond your control, attitude is certainly the one that's not. This is the absolute top choice. Is this easy? Of course not. Is there any other way to do this? Of course not. And that settles that. Success Reason Two: Get up an hour earlier. It's too easy to get into a rut but it's also easy to stay out of one. Getting up even earlier than you did when you were working is part attitude (see above) and part discipline. I don't have enough space in this and three more columns to spell out all the benefits of making yourself do this, but you'll find them all when you do. In essence, does the early bird really catch the worm? Every time. Success Reason Three: 'One more call.' When you think you're done for the day, make one more call. That's five more calls per week, but if you divide the day into four time periods and do this for each – before coffee break, before lunch break, before mid-afternoon walk, and before day's end – that's twenty more calls per week. Adds up, doesn't it? Take it from an old salesman who understands the numbers game. This is where you gain advantage. Success Reason Four: Who else? While you're networking, keep thinking 'Who else can help me?' On the other side of the person with whom you're networking is a whole new network. There's always someone else. Always. Success Reason Five: Widen your thinking. What else are you capable of doing? A waiter can become a concierge. An accountant can be a business manager. A nurse can become a medical equipment trainer. While this is admittedly a tough time to making leaps like this, there's no doubt it's possible with a little creativity and initiative. Success Reason Six: Increase your options. Don't define your job search just by your past, by what you have done; think in terms of what you can do. In other words, what are your transferable skills? Even in the worst of all job markets, there is always a demand for these: communication, interpersonal and team building, creativity and creative thinking, analytical thinking, design and strategy, research, management and administration, ethics and value setting, leadership, and technology. You have some or nearly all of them – and this is what gets many candidates hired. So don't limit yourself. Success Reason Seven: Keep your antennae up 24/7. Every minute of every day is an opportunity to find an opportunity, to meet new people, and to connect. Networking happens everywhere, not just professionally. Yes, you want to find your formal networking functions, but networking also happens while shopping, at backyard barbecues, at the dry cleaner, during a ball game, at church, at the swim club, and while volunteering. You never know where you can hook up, so every minute of every day is critical. Stay alert. Success Reason Eight: Expand your resources. The job boards are good, but there's so much more. Learn and use valuable databases in your public library. Read the rest of the paper or trade magazines. You won't find job listings; you'll find job clues! Industry or professional associations come into play here – big time. Success Reason Nine: Temp, Contract, or Interim. This only gives you a paycheck; it's a smart job search strategy. Millions of people a day go to work as a temp, contractor, or interim, and many eventually get hired. It gets you into companies you'd like to work for, and temp jobs are found 'from the mailroom to the boardroom.' It can be long term, it's a great opportunity to sell yourself, to 'try before you buy,' and is in many corporate budgets. This is a no-brainer. And Success Reason Ten: Act; don't react. The American workplace will never again accommodate the passive job seeker, so be proactive and make things happen. Plan, do your research, target companies, network – and declare victory in advance. In The Art of War, Sun Tzu, Chinese military strategist of the 4th century BC, said 'Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war and then seek to win.'

Boosting suicide prevention must be part of Hong Kong's recovery efforts

Hong Kong's progress in recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, attracting tourists, talent and investment, has given the city much to be positive about. But this is not felt by all members of the community and many residents still struggle with their mental health. They must not be left behind. study by Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong has revealed that 1,138 people committed suicide in the city last year. The rate of 15.1 per 100,000 is the highest since 2003. It is a stark reminder of the need for effective measures to prevent such tragedies. The report, based on an analysis of Coroner's Court cases, highlighted a significant year-on-year increase in cases involving middle-aged men. A rate of 24.38 suicides per 100,000 was recorded for men aged 30-39, and 27.46 for the 40-49 age group. This demographic has received less attention compared to the well-documented cases involving young people and the elderly. The NGO believes economic hardship to be a contributing factor. More than twice as many men as women committed suicide last year and more than a third of all cases involved people who were unemployed. Another factor is the relative reluctance of men to seek help. There were almost double the number of interventions prompted by calls to the organisation's hotline from women compared to men last year. There must be increased awareness of the need to ask for assistance and the means of doing so, ensuring support is available to help those at risk turn their lives around.

Pakistan launches major electric vehicle push, targets students and unemployed

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani federal government is targeting students and unemployed individuals in a major scheme to promote the use of electric vehicles, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday, saying the move will save billions of dollars in fuel imports, help protect environment and promote local industry. The prime minister said this while presiding over a meeting in Islamabad to review promotion of electric vehicles in the country and the government assistance in acquisition of electric bikes, rickshaws and loaders, according to Sharif's office. The proposed scheme comes amid the cash-strapped South Asian country's efforts to avoid costly oil imports that shrank five percent to $15 billion from July 2024 till May 2025, according to latest official figures. Islamabad is currently trying to formulate a plan to make electric vehicles accessible to people. Officials briefed participants of Friday's meeting that steps were being taken to enable people to acquire electric bikes, rickshaws and loaders through low-cost loans and the government will assist provision of more than 100,000 electric bikes and 3,000 rickshaws and loading vehicles. 'The federal government, including the federal board, will provide electric bikes to the toppers of boards across the country,' Sharif was quoted as saying. 'The government will provide electric rickshaws and loaders to unemployed people for employment on a priority basis.' Under the scheme, which is likely to be launched soon, free electric bikes will be provided to students who have shown exceptional performance at the intermediate level in educational boards across the country, according to Sharif's office. A special quota of 25 percent has been kept for women, while the quota of provinces has been allocated in proportion to the population. Pakistan last month unveiled a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025–2030, which targets 30 percent of all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030. The policy, which covers cars, buses, motorcycles and rickshaws, aims to accelerate the country's shift toward sustainable transport, reduce fossil fuel dependence, and curb climate-warming emissions. Sharif instructed officials to ensure a complete ecosystem for the production and maintenance of electric vehicles in the country, preferring people belonging to the economically weaker section in the government's scheme. 'Third-party validation should be done for the entire mechanism of distribution of electric vehicles and government assistance in it,' he said. Officials informed the meeting's participants that four new battery manufacturing companies are starting their operations in the country, which will create new business opportunities and employment in Pakistan. 'The prime minister instructed [officials] to ensure that the electric bikes, rickshaws and loaders provided in the proposed scheme meet the best quality and safety standards,' Sharif's office said.
