Uninsured driver who caused death of man in crash drove again while disqualified

An uninsured driver has been jailed after causing the death of a man in a crash. Danyaal Zubair, of Lucas Close, Maidenbower, was driving a black BMW 335 that he borrowed from a friend on the morning of February 9, 2023. The 28-year-old lost control of the vehicle and collided with a red Honda jazz travelling on the other side of the road after exiting the Ifield roundabout into Ifield Avenue westbound in Crawley. A third vehicle – a maroon Nissan saloon car – unable to stop in time, collided with the BMW on the eastbound side of the road. The driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Honda jazz was trapped inside the vehicle and after being freed was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Zubair was arrested at the scene after a DrugsWipe tested positive for cannabis. The driver of the Honda jazz, 78-year-old David Pollard, experienced medical complications from his injuries relating to the crash and died on February 13, 2023. Zubair was further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on March 10, 2023. He was released under investigation. He was charged with causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and causing death by driving a vehicle while unlicensed or uninsured on July 31, 2024. He appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on August 28, 2024, and pleaded not guilty to both offences and was released on bail. He again pleaded not guilty at Lewes Crown Court on September 25, 2024. Zubair changed his plea to guilty to causing death by careless driving and causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured on March 24. He received an interim six-month driving disqualification ahead of his sentencing. Zubair took to the roads again and on April 22 he was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified and driving while uninsured. He was charged with the offences and appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court the next day, where he was jailed for 12 weeks. He appeared in Hove Crown Court on Friday, August 8, and was sentenced to two years imprisonment and given a three-year driving ban with a requirement to take an extended retest. 'Speeding and driving carelessly or dangerously are two of the 'Fatal Five' factors that often lead to serious or fatal collisions. "These incidents can have a devastating impact on everyone involved, as well as their loved ones. 'Our thoughts remain with David's family, and while we recognise that nothing will make up for the tragic loss of life, the sentencing today may bring some peace that the offender was brought to justice.'

G1 driver charged after car fire bursts into flames near Arthur

Two people have been charged following a vehicle fire near Arthur. Ontario Provincial Police said it veered off the road on Jones Baseline around 8 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle then came to rest in a ditch and caught fire. 'It was determined that the driver had escaped from the vehicle prior to it catching fire, and there were no other occupants or vehicles involved,' an OPP media release said. 'The driver was treated as a precaution by EMS and did not require to attend hospital.' The driver, a 26-year-old from Guelph, has since been charged with careless driving. Police said they were a Class G1 licence holder and, as such, should have had a qualified driver in the vehicle. The 26-year-old was also charged for driving unaccompanied. The owner of the car, a 27-year-old from Guelph, was charged with permitting a vehicle to be operated by someone without insurance and permitting a person with an improper licence to drive a motor vehicle.
