Ceedee Lamb, in street clothes, hit with 15-yard penalty after getting trucked by official in Cowboys preseason opener

CeeDee Lamb got tackled and hit with a penalty on his day off. The Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after getting hit by an official on the sidelines. Lamb had been standing on the sideline with his arm in the air to celebrate teammate Jonathan Mingo getting open when the official, who was running with his attention on the play, slammed into his back. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The run-in was called a "foul against an official." Fortunately for Lamb, the official and everyone with stakes in Lamb, the Pro Bowler appeared to be fine after the impact and was even laughing with his friends on the sideline. The play also saw Mingo draw a defensive pass interference penalty from Los Angeles Rams cornerback Shaun Jolly for a 51-yard gain. The result was the Cowboys going from 3rd-and-16 at their own 26-yard line to 1st-and-25 at the Rams' 38-yard line. Lamb was in street clothes because the Cowboys opted to rest pretty much their entire starting offense for their preseason opener. He's coming off another Pro Bowl season with 1,1194 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but he'll be trying to bounce back toward his 1,749-yard peak in 2023.

Naomi Osaka blasted for 'shameful' behavior after losing to Victoria Mboko who idolizes her

Naomi Osaka has been slammed by tennis fans for her 'unsportsmanlike' behavior after being beaten in the final of the Canadian Open. The four-time Grand Slam champion was bested by 18-year-old Victoria Mboko in Montreal after the teenager pulled off a sensational 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 comeback victory to claim her first WTA Tour title on home soil. The Canadian starlet completed a dream run to the National Bank Open title, downing four Grand Slam winners - Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Sofia Kenin and Osaka - en route to her victory. Mboko previously admitted to considering her final opponent her role model, yet Osaka didn't even acknowledge the rising star in her brief 45-word post-match interview. 'Thanks, I guess. I don't really want to take up too much time. I'll just say thank you to everyone. Thank you to my team, the ball kids, organizers, and volunteers. I hope you guys had a good night,' Osaka briefly said. The 27-year-old later claimed that she simply forgot to congratulate her opponent, telling reporters: 'I think Victoria played really well. I completely forgot to congratulate her on the court. Yeah, I mean, she did really amazing, so...' Yet, Osaka's short speech had already left tennis fans furious on social media, as many called her out for what they viewed as 'shameful' behavior. 'It's absolutely shameful that Naomi Osaka knows that Victoria Mboko idolizes and look up to her, and she couldn't even congratulate her or even mention her name,' one social media user seethed. 'Disgusting, sore loser behaviour. She earned a hater in me today.' 'Of all people, Naomi Osaka should know how to be gracious to a younger opponent during the post-match ceremony,' a second said. 'To not even congratulate Victoria in the speech was a bad look.' In 2018, Osaka had been left in tears during the US Open trophy presentation after she clinched her first Grand Slam title in straight sets against Serena Williams. Her triumph was marred by arguments between Williams - her own idol - and the match's umpire, Carlos Ramos, before the pro-American Arthur Ashe crowd booed Osaka. And, after failing to congratulate her own younger opponent during a trophy presentation eight years later, Osaka faced backlash from fans. 'Naomi Osaka not congratulating a young black girl who looks up to her on her first main tour trophy is in incredibly poor taste. Salty for what? #wtamontreal,' one social media user wrote. 'Naomi Osaka such a sore loser and no sportsmanship. She could have at least been gracious and thank the winner that she lost against,' another fumed. Meanwhile, a third added: 'I have never witnessed such poor sportsmanship as was exhibited by Naomi Osaka tonight. What a poor loser!!!' The Japanese star's short speech and behavior left tennis fans furious on social media 'honestly, i didn't expect how much of a classless, poor sport Naomi Osaka was tonight. shamelful behaviour,' another agreed. Mboko, a wild card, rallied after dropping the first set to the Japanese former world number one, who had established a 3-0 lead, and held firm to cap a remarkable fortnight at home. Local favourite Mboko found her rhythm in the second set, breaking serve to establish a 5-2 lead as Osaka struggled with her returns, and she capitalised to level up the contest and force a decider. The decisive moment came in the third set, when Mboko took a 3-1 lead after saving four break points in a pivotal fourth game that gave her a firm grip on the match as she went on to claim the title after two hours and four minutes of play. Osaka was clearly rattled by the rowdy Canadian crowd, who made no secret of whom they were rooting for, but some fans claimed the Japanese star had surrendered the match before it was even over. One point in particular raised eyebrows during the third set. Osaka looked to have won the point when she rushed to the net to fire back a lob shot from Mboko but the teenager darted forward just getting her racket to the ball for a sensational return. Yet a dejected Osaka made no attempt to fire back, standing motionless at the net as she watched Mboko's shot rattle past. 'Naomi Osaka had long checked out by this point, but that get by Victoria Mboko was electrifying,' one user wrote. 'Naomi's body language now is horrible,' an Osaka fan account lamented, while another social media user added: 'The crowd is getting to Naomi Osaka and it looks like she checked out of this match mentally.' Osaka has openly discussed her mental health in the past. She took a highly publicized mental health break from the game after withdrawing from the French Open in May 2021, citing concerns with her mental health and overall well-being. In Montreal, Osaka, who previously reached No. 1 in the world, had her best performance in a WTA 1000 tournament since also reaching the Miami final in 2022. She stepped away for 15 months toward the end of that season and had daughter Shai in July 2023. She's winless since the 2021 Australian Open. Meanwhile, Mboko is the third wild card to win a WTA 1000 title event, following Maria Sharapova at Cincinnati in 2011 and Andreescu at Indian Wells in 2019. Mboko - who jumped from 85th to 25th in the world - won her first WTA Tour title and joined Faye Urban in 1969 and Bianca Andreescu in 2019 as the only Canadians to win the home event in the open era.

Watch the shocking moment tennis player's racket almost HITS a person in the crowd at Queen's

A tennis player almost injured a spectator in the stands at Queen's on Wednesday afternoon after smashing his racquet and letting it fly into the crowd. Jakub Mensik was taking part in his second-round clash against Roberto Bautista Agut at the historic venue, with the teenager keen to add a grass title to his trophy cabinet after picking up the Miami Open title in March. The number-eight seed had claimed the first set of his contest with the Spaniard handily, 6-3, but found himself on the back foot early on in the second. A break down, Mensik looked to restore parity on the Bautista Agut serve and looking to break back. But after his 37-year-old opponent pulled off the crucial hold of service, Mensik let his emotions get the better of him, smashing his racquet into the grass on the baseline. After bringing down his racquet with force however, Mensik let it slip from his grasp, with the item flying off the court and up into the stands. 'He's very lucky there!' 😅 Jakub Mensik's racket almost hit someone in the crowd after slipping out his hands 😬 — BBC Sport (@BBCSport) June 18, 2025 Jakub Mensik narrowly avoided being defaulted for unsportsmanlike conduct at Queen's Attendees at The Queen's Club were forced to duck for cover, with one woman in the third row narrowly avoiding injury. Mensik was given a code violation warning for unsportsmanlike conduct by the chair umpire as he checked his hands in seeming disbelief after the incident. 'Oh my goodness,' Lee Goodall said in surprise on world feed commentary. 'Well, that's why you have to be careful. 'What will the outcome be here, because that's landed in the crowd? How lenient will (umpire) James Keothavong be here?' On BBC commentary, former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash argued that Mensik had been lucky not be defaulted. 'It clearly slipped out of his hand and he didn't mean to do that but he would have got a warning for that,' Cash told viewers. 'He's lucky there's nobody in the crowd (in those seats) or he would've been on his way back to the hotel.' Although he was allowed to stay on the court, Mensik had a torrid time of it, with Bautista Agut claiming the second set, and then the win as the players went the distance 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in west London. Bautista Agut will now play the winner of Holger Rune's clash with US star Mackenzie MacDonald.

California high school sprinter stripped of state title due to 'unsportsmanlike' fire-extinguisher celebration

A California high-school sprinter was stripped of the state title after an "unsportsmanlike" celebration with a fire extinguisher, according to the Los Angeles Times. Clara Adams, a 16-year-old sophomore at North Salinas High, finished the 400-meter finals .28 seconds before her closest competitor, but was disqualified by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) due to her celebration. Following the win, Adams obtained a "small fire extinguisher" from her father in the stands. Adams then sprayed her cleats, implying they were on fire due to her blazing speed. The CIF disqualified Adams from both the 400-meter finals and the 200-meter finals due to that celebration, which they deemed "unsportsmanlike." Advertisement Adams told the Los Angeles Times she was "robbed," saying she was just having fun with the celebration. "I was having fun,' Adams said, noting her win in the 400 marked her first state title. 'I'd never won something like that before, and they took it away from me. I didn't do anything wrong.' She added: 'I worked really hard for it and they took it from me, and I don't know what to do.' David Adams, Clara's father, said the CIF ruled "unsporting conduct" against his daughter. David claimed officials were "really nasty" to Clara. Unsporting conduct can include "disrespectfully addressing an official, any flagrant behavior, intentional contact, taunting, criticizing or using profanity directed toward someone," per the National Federation of State High School Associations. David said that rule was cited as a "gray area" that the CIF used to justify the decision. David said the celebration was a tribute to Maurice Greene, a former U.S. sprinter who used the same celebration at the Home Depot Invitational in 2004. Broadcasters laughed at Greene's celebration, which took place in the middle of the track. Advertisement David argued Clara's antics didn't qualify as unsportsmanlike because she performed her celebration away from the track, per the Los Angeles Times. "Looking at the film, Clara is nowhere near any opponent,' he said. 'She's off the track, on the grass. Her opponents are long gone off the track already, so she wasn't in their face. It was a father-daughter moment. ... She did it off the track because she didn't want to seem disrespectful toward nobody. And they still found a reason to take her title away. They didn't give her a warning or anything.' The CIF and North Salinas High track and field head coach Alan Green did not respond to the Los Angeles Times when reached for comment. David Adams threatened to take legal action against the CIF if the organization won't return his calls. Following Clara's disqualification, St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood sprinter Madison Mosby was awarded the win in the 400-meter finals.
